Another one-dayer, just proves that without pressure from below to escalate D Ward and the PE will just drag it out with minimum action, taking the heat off RM and losing us support.

We should all start circulating letters in their DO's and mail centres demanding the action is escalated!

All out and indefinite is the way to :cfo

it is going to take more than 1 strike to make them change their minds about a lot of these proposed changes as i have said in previous threads crozier only gets his bonus if he cuts jobs so 1 strike is'nt going to bother him.
back in 71 we were on strike for 7 weeks hope it does'nt come to that again

Dear Allan

Your public refusal to engage in fresh negotiations leaves the Union no alternative other than to announce further strike action.

The CWU agree modernisation is essential. But are you aware your Senior Management Team have never tabled a single proposal to the Union for the introduction of new automation?

There is a simple solution. Royal Mail must return to the approach agreed in 2006. This means change can be introduced in a way that genuinely benefits customers, the workforce and the company.

To demonstrate our commitment to achieving a settlement I am making yet another fresh offer. The next strike can be avoided if you agree to engage in meaningful negotiations covering the following strands.

Modernising the company and improving efficiency by taking the workforce with us.

Delivering on our commitment to permanently raise the value and status of postal workers’ jobs.

Agreeing a resolution to pension issues.

Working together to face up to the challenges of competition.

If you agree to immediate negotiations covering the aforementioned and set aside planned executive action, I will recommend to my Executive the withdrawal of the next planned strike.

However, if you simply restate your previous position – that you will only meet to explain the challenges facing the business – then a further strike will take place.

This latest offer from CWU is a genuine attempt to move things forward.

I look forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely

I too reckon this will carry on for a while yet. If all Leighton is willing to do is repeat himself we're left with no alternative.
We're already losing public sympathy because of the last strike. I was looking on the BBC website and they had a message board asking how the last strike would affect people. I'd say about 80% of the comments on there amounted to nothing more than telling us *we should be thankful we've got a job and to stop being greedy*
Now if that is a reflection of how the rest of the general public feel about the strike action we're running out of sympathy and fast. Most of the messages on there were obviously from people who didn't know the real reasons why we're striking after buying into Royal Fails propaganda about us wanting a 26% pay rise. The union needs to make sure the public are fully aware of the real reasons behind our strike action. Especially as Royal Fail will no doubt release more doctored figures and spin more lies in the press.

I doubt many people would be able to afford a prolonged strike, or even a week without pay. And that's probably what alan and adam are counting on.
Wouldn't working to rule for an entire month f**k them up just as bad. At least that way you'd still be getting a basic wage whilst leaving them in the s**t.
Only trouble with that is getting everyone to agree to do it. It'd be easier for people to *scab* and do overtime than it would for them to cross a picket line.
