Come on guys,a little sympathy for the customer doesn't go amiss!

In my experience there's always been a great misconception by the public about what the "recorded delivery " service actually provides! It probably should be better explained to the customer but i'm afraid that side of it has nothing to do with us humble posties!
As for what's happened to your item? Could be any one of many things! The rts service can be a lengthy process,perhaps some other posties on here know what sort of timescale it takes? Otherwise, as said previously all jobs have a cross section of people in them,the worlds no perfect ye ken!

Nice rant at the end yes we do know the country is in recession but we've been making big cuts and increasing our workload for years now! On busy days now ,your mail,packets,tickets whatever,could be sitting in your local office overnight cause we don't have the time to deliver it anymore! Thats not the kind of service we want Royal Mail to provide and nor should you!

I don't read the Daily Mail and I do understand that sometimes we have to make a stand for the right causes. During the Miner's strike in the early 80's, I was a student (prior to which I served an apprenticeship). I always "dug deep" for the miners, with regular contributions of a quid ot two. I believed that their cause was just.

Your plight may well be just, but right now we are in a world-wide crisis depression and your actions are hurting mr and mrs public, a lot of whom are already themeselves suffering from having lost their jobs, or had their incomes reduced. A lot of these folks are losing the roof over their heads. Who do they go to to argue for their rights and conditions?

Actually, the 1st of November is this coming SUNDAY. Friday is the 30th of October.
I've been on the Green Day website and the Wembley show is indeed scheduled for the 1st of November - my first piece of advice would be for your son to wait until the day of the gig (Sunday) before travelling down to London. Hopefully this will save train fare/petrol

While it is sadly possible that the tickets have been lost/stolen while in RM's care, or caught in the strike backlog, I'd be interested to hear what type of accomodation your son has at uni:

Is he in halls of residence? If so, it's likely that all post for the hall is given to security/reception staff, who then hold it until collected by the individual student. (This was the deal when I was in halls). If so, it's possible that the tickets could have been properly signed for by reception, and then gone missing. Someone could have collected the tickets claiming to be your son, for example. As it's only October it'd be unlikely the reception staff know all of the hundreds of students by name; if someone else knew he was expecting the tickets, impersonating him would probably be quite easy.

If he is living in a student house? The high turnover of occupants in student housing means a daily pile of mail for previous residents is inevitable. If your son was out/asleep when the postie called, the 739 card (the red 'sorry you were out' card) could well have been missed in the pile, along with pizza leaflets etc. It may be sitting there now!
Also, how well does your son know his housemates? If two of them are wearing new Green Day t-shirts on Monday - mystery solved!

A delay of this long may sadly mean the tickets have been lost/stolen, although it may have happened after leaving Royal Mail's hands. It must be extremely frustrating. I hope they do eventually turn up, I know they'll be useless but hopefully it will convince you that the posties aren't a bunch of crooks!

Unfortunately coming onto a postal workers chat forum and asking where one of millions of letters is and asking us to give you an honest answer is unrealistic. You should vent your anger towards Royal Mail.

- I'm afraid it's like asking " Where's my Giro " - the problem is the system however RM do not broker any criticism , it's always been defensive and secretive . Just got a lot worse - :cfo gets £3 million for running it , that's where the buck stops .

Apparently there's strict time scales as to when a letter is classed as lost , about three weeks then there can be a investigation as to how it got lost .

Mr Chinaski... You are right, the 1st Nov is Sunday. He is travelling down to London this Friday, staying at his mate's pad in London. We lost both of their tickets, but have managed to get two more off ebay, which my wife and I took down to Sheffield last Saturday (We were going anyway). He has already booked and paid for his train tickets to London. This and the fact that we had lost his mate's ticket too caused us to buy two more tickets. Fortunately I managed to get them at the bargain price of just £95, as opposed to the £175 that my son paid for their first two tickets. We were hoping that his first tickets would either turn up at his student hall, or be redelivered to home in Durham so that we could sell them on.

We'll chalk it down to experience. I'm sure they'll enjoy the night and the week-end. That's probably the main thing. Cheers....

If hes sharing someone in the house may of picked up the 'while you were out' card and put it somewhere 'safe'. Though by now it should be on its way back to you as RD is only kept in the office for 7 days before being returned to sender.

Stormproof, he has been to the local sorting offices and we've rang the telephone number given by our village Post Office, but even with the tracker number, they can't trace it. Does he need to go to the Sheffield sorting office? Would that help?

Don't know if it would be worthwhile for him to go to the main Delivery Office now as it has now been a while, may be worth giving them another ring though. Why would the postie leave a card, do the reception staff flat-out refuse to sign for anything? Wouldn't that defeat the point of having a 'secure post box' for every student?

The students must spend half their time at the DO picking stuff up.
