has anyone else switched since the mail strike?

Post by youlazysods »

having been a postie for 5 years inthe southest back in the 80's i used have a loyalty to the PO ..but not no more i can not support a union/ company who make the general public suffer :cry i have taken my £££ else where i am not alone it may only be £500.00 week to the RM.... but think of all the others who are doing the same .. record loses next year for RM
this strike is self destructing .. you will gain nothing in the long term and lose in the short term IMO

all the best any way off to City Link

Hope your stuff gets delivered okay - City Link drivers are forever asking me where places are and I send them the wrong way - it's good training for them. Mind you - when they find the address and no one is in, it's standard practice for them to leave stuff in the garden - seen that a few times too lol
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

Things have changed big time since you were a postie. This is my 2nd stint with RM, I originally started in the 80's and boy did I have a big shock when I returned in 2003. As for taking your business elsewhere CYA :wave
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Sorry but posties delivering mail are no longer part of the PO (RM letters and the PO are 2 different organisations that come under the RMG). Mind you if your knowledge of the business is so far out of date, its not surprising that you do not know the reasons behind the dispute and therefore think we are trying to gain something when the opposite is true. All we are trying to do is protect current T&Cs which are worse than when you were a postie, and trying to get RM to stick to the P&M2007 agreement and treat us with respect.

"this strike is self destructing .."

This is a favourite soundbite of Mandelson and senior RM figures: that the strikes are 'self-destructive', 'self-defeating', 'suicidal', etc, etc.

Here's what I would call ‘self-destructive’: a company whose business plan consists of saving money wherever and whenever possible, with absolutely no thought to the end product - that is, the quality of the service - or the well-being of its workforce. If the service is rubbish the only outcome will be the loss of more and more business. If the workers are dead on their feet the service can only get worse.

THAT’s self-destructive. That is the future these strikes are trying to prevent.

All talk,
Strange all this talk of companies that are no longer using Royal Mail, but how comes were still getting sh**loads of work from Amazon and John Lewis.
We are the most reliable and the cheapest as you will find out if you are indeed changing your carrier,
We are on strike because Royal Mail has imposed un-realistic workloads , YOUR MAIL IS ARRIVING LATER AND LATER, AND MAY EVEN BE LEFT BEHIND IN YOU'RE DELIVERY OFFICE DUE TO THIS. Were striking because RM management are trying to blame, bully and harrass us due to the decisions they have made.
And may I also wish you the success in you're business that you have offered us!

Guys N Gals .. i would love to continue to use the ROYAL MAIL , i have only ever had one issue in 7 years with the special delivery service , i ( the rest of the service is poor constant problems with my going missing and never arriving) , However i have no choice other than to source another company to deliver my nextday items, this is the problem you are causing .. and once one of you customers starts using another delivery agent they prob wont come back unless the agent is Rubbish .. maybe City Li*k are but for now there not on strike and can delivery my mail for the same price

I have cancelled my contract with RM and I am now using another service provider, a lot of the companies that I have dealings with, a number of large ones also have moved away from the RM, CWU are slowly pressing the self destruct button.

It will go bang soon

I don't see what you going to City Link has to do with me. Getting and keeping customers is a management and sales job and I'm a postie. If Royal Mail forcing me to strike causes them to lose business then I can only assume it part of their long term goal to make more profit.
It's pointless not doing something because there might be consequences. There are consequences to everything and I believe that strike will produce the best outcome for both posties and customers.

The consequences of you striking is that you'll be queuing outside the dole office soon.

Is there, in your opinion, a point at which a strike is justifiable. Or as perhaps it appears to people on here you are idealogicaly opposed to any strike whatever the cause. I would be interested to know as perhaps you are not aware that we have tried to address the issues that cause this strike, with RM management, through our Union, but our concerns were always dismissed. If an employer is not willing to address the concerns of its employees after 2 years, what in your opinion should those employees do, and please don't trot out the line "Leave if you don't like your job" as most of us do like our jobs.
