How's it gonna work then? We go in , zap the meter with a satnav gun, we hang on a few secs, and the gun prints off a bill and we collect the money?????????? JEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZ this f***in jobs going off the wall. Also, any female postie would be stupid to step into a strangers house without any protection. It's a f***in' non-starter :lfo :cfo ---------A KONFRONTATIONAL KWAK

Basically every postie is to get a palm top device under this plan. They would cost £11mill to implement but they are GPS devices so not only could we read meter's & input the info to upload but also your DOM would have access to a program which monitors our whereabouts. Each week you'd be told how many hours you owe RM & when someone goes sick, wallup that's when you double up & give them back the hours you owe.
It doesn't bode well for posties if RM wins. The union agreed RM could trial these things but have no agreement in place for RM to introduce them. Leighton & Crozier couldn't give two shites about agreements.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Well be selling potatos and f***ing milk next, and Fozzie if youve ever seen inside some of the rougher houses on the rougher estates, you know the ones, the ones our alleged competitors dont want to deliver to, you would know nobody wants to go inside them houses, i think youve been reading too much of mills and boon and house and home Fozz...

was it the union or royal mail that briefed you, never heard anything like it. Can't wait for that film, our DOM said in wtl that Royal Mail would grind us down before we could do it to them - wonder if their being briefed on this hard talk, sounds the same. missed the crozier vid though, shame cos i kinda like them - better than the dom droning on anyway
I can't see how they could bring in us reading meters. Surely its a change of employment and would need agreement from they guys doing it so that they sign a brand new contract. Not like changing from a walking postman to a night sorter at a Mail Centre, or even a keyer at MDEC. Can't see it happening I think its a wind up.

It came from a divisional rep at an area meeting. There's loads of stuff being trialled but again, the union is opposed to anything new being introduced until they have an agreement in place.
In one trial non RM staff sign a contract to deliver x amount of mail in their locale per day. They are contracted to deliver an agreed number of items per day,no pension,no sick pay. They are expected to cover the delivery of the mail through other nominated family/friends if they are unable to deliver it. If they have more items than is agreed the rate goes up pro rata based on the agreed amount.
Allegedly mum's are queuing up to do this work after their school runs.
We used to have and still have one home based postie - under different regimes they did away with them - now they seem to be the flavour of the month again - swings and roundabouts as they are so keen on quoting.
It seems as though they want job and finish as long as it takes you up to your time - who's making sure they put in a fair whack?

Yes i remember phone books, they werent pre packed and you had to put them in plastic bags if it was raining and you couldnt leave them on steps, well thats what they told us, we didnt do it, i think it was 11p per book which went up to 15p per book if all the directories were delivered by a certain date, good money but a pain in the arse...UNITY IS STRENGTH.
