It really doesnt matter which company you work for Fozzie, youre all the same trying to cream off the bits that are most profitable, RM is a public service and should have stayed that way, there isnt a chance in hell that any of the competition is bothered about the general publics mail, THEY DONT WANT THE PUBLICS MAIL, in business its all about how much profit you can make in the shortest time, and when youve made profit its how much more can we make next year, we can see it in RM now,50 million is not enough and yet they are the sort of figures that they used to run this company on when the goverment took 90% of the profits for 21 years. As for privatisation, i have said before, at the next election labour in their manifesto will include a 49% sell off of RM with them keeping a 51% stake. Management buy outs, you mean franchises, another great management idea, where you work twice as hard and they dont have all the hassle that goes with the employment of people. Believe me we arent laughing over here, if you lot get your way, it will be a sad day for the general public.
P.S Im not friends with any boss, ive seen what a bunch of self centred back stabbing arogant b****rds they are.

Slow Friday p.m
Rm have been tring unsuccessfully for some time to bring P/L (Profit & Loss) accounting to each D.O. They hadn't succeeded when I left, but might done since. These means they can know (using teir system I hasten add) what each DO is contributing in terms of value by postcode and cost by postcode. In theory someone/people could therefore buy that business.
I just thought that considering postie's general dissatisfaction (in here anyway!) with the management approach in DO's that a frontline employee buy-in (probably by the senior posties) might be of interest? Nothing more nothing less, well....
Look at the approach of the boys in Orange.
Have a wonderful weekend and don't let them get u down

It's "The Fozzmeister" ffs!!
Can't see them flogging the DO's,from what i've heard,as a group we can make a profit, but not individually.F0zziebear wrote:Rm have been tring unsuccessfully for some time to bring P/L (Profit & Loss) accounting to each D.O. They tried to sell off distribution or rather make plans to,but it wasn't feasible.
Can't see Parliament letting that stuff go through anyway.
As for the "dissatisfaction (in here anyway!)" statement, there's enough of us on here, from all over the UK an all, that shows it's Nationwide.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

interesting dilemna's
Royal Mail will suffer tremendously upstream. Competitors have taken approx. 2.7bn items annually out of about 24.2bn. I can't see how they can make this part remain viable, but could be wrong. The network part is run fairly well from my observations and having worked with some of the heads of.
It's interesting you say that individual DO's can't make a profit. I will take your word on it and assume that some can and others can't but as a postcode area one assumes that they can. Personally if I reckon a whole postcode area could/should be bought out by the posties. The problem is that inevitably job cuts would come about. I suppose it's better to stick together and look after each other's jobs. Interesting that Gordon gave the nurses a fairly low pay rise.
Well considering I'm supposed to be an expert in this field I reckon it's fairly muddy and no-one quite knows how it will work out.
Well off to sie bank

RM wont sell off the DOs, they droped a b***ock in 92 by spliting the parcels into parcelforce, the parcels were already in the infrastructure of RM, with no overheads, so what do the clever b***ards do, they create parcelforce, with new biuldings and new vans, uniforms, etc. RM couldnt make a profit on the parcels for years, and only by shutting depots a couple of years ago have they managed to stabalise it.
P.S FOZZARELLA, YOU HAVNT ANSWERED MY QUESTION. [/b]

United we stand divided we fall
I assume this motto is where you are coming from, and the CWU should take some credit for lasting as long as they and as strong as they have.
Parcelforce is an interesting one. Talk about overlaps. What is a parcel and what is a letter? Whilst there are dimensions I couldn't see the dividing line. It's only a few years ago that RM nearly closed down Parcelforce completely. That had 3 options and to be fair to Vanessa Leeson she has created what appears to be a viable business (going concern) in the most competitive postal market in the country.
Anecdote: I remember the 1 minute silence after 7/7. Everyone came outside and obersved. The only person who didn't was a Parcelforce guy, whom I assume was an owner drive getting paid per item delivered. Fair play or ethically wrong?
I can't tell you who or what I work for as that spoils the chase. If/when I leave the industry I'll be happy to inform you and buy the boys in blue a pint (not the whole workforce mind you!)
F0zzie go bye bye

Leighton is wanted by sainsbury, and ive heard the goverment is already headhunting for potential replacements.
Its a real shame that a public service like this should be ripped apart by greedy business people who will put thousands of ordinary people out of work, and then walk away into another 2 day a week job with a big bonus for doing it.
And the competion still moan about unfair advantage even though this goverment opened up our postal market 2 years before the european union agreed open up theirs. CHEEKY B***ARDS.
