Hi folks,
Although I've posted in the 'New Members' area, I thought this might be a more appropriate place to ask if there were any delays to deliveries in the Redhill RH1 area please?
Official websites aren't that much use and having (thankfully) stumbled upon this website, I thought I might ask and see if anyone knows of any delays.
I'm waiting for a couple of 1st class small packets, one I've waited a couple of weeks for (not yet reported lost, that will be Friday) and one for around a week.
I wouldn't normally be too concerned because I've always found the postal service round my area to be excellent - I have never had one piece of post go "missing" in about 10 years of living in Redhill, and as I've said elsewhere, staff at the local delivery office have always gone the extra mile to help me - not once have I ever been 'fobbed off' as a customer or given a pile of excuses. However, with the recent action, I was wondering how delayed things would be in my area.
Cheers

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
If they were sent from Brighton there should'nt be any delay to get to you
I believe that anything from Brighton would've been taken to Gatwick for sorting and then taken directly to Redhill, as far as I'm aware there has been no Industrial Action from either of those offices. I'm sure someone from one of those offices will be along later to confirm.

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
Thanks for the advice - as I say, it's very strange and I've had no problems in the past in terms of lost / delayed parcels. Rather than assume a light-fingered postman, I think the company may be trying to cover up a blunder here - if that is indeed the case I'll come back and let you know, because I'm not the first person to have postage issues with them, from what I've read, and I don't think it's fair to "just blame Royal Mail" when it's the company themselves that tell fibbers about when they posted an item.

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
Hi Neil, another possible cause although with packets not as much is the fact that alot people tend to put bh instead of rh and the letters come to our mail centre in error we then have to send them back to brighton to be sent to redhill, this tends to cause a delay but hopefully yours should arrive ok

Hi there you might be right about the the blunder, a lady on my round was waiting over 2 weeks for an item Sevenoaks to dartford they said to her it must be caught in the strike.. I told her to keep ringing as it should be here by now.... when she did she got through to some one else and they said there was no note of despatch, she got it the next day....

Yeah sounds like a plausible story.harry09 wrote:Hi there you might be right about the the blunder, a lady on my round was waiting over 2 weeks for an item Sevenoaks to dartford they said to her it must be caught in the strike.. I will follow this up with the company and let you know what I find. Invariably they will blame strike action or Royal Mail as a whole so to hear of possible reasons for delay / non-delivery that are actually honest helps a lot :)

I deliver to firms and they openly admit they blame the post when they forget something.... One of those things really

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
if it helps,so far here in the west country we've seen absolutely no disruption to mail bar the one slower than usual Saturday, but boy did we pay for that Monday.like today delivered a packet from London dated yesterday.
its does seem in vogue to blame everything forgotten on the post persons.i always tell them when it arrives to note the date posted.many many times it was only posted the day or two before.

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
Well, it's very telling that I ordered a package on Monday 12th (from GAME, dispatched from Nottingham) posted 1st class (again a small packet) which arrived yesterday....
I'm glad I only ordered £20 worth of stuff from this other company otherwise I would REALLY be hopping up and down!
When I have established the facts (or as near as I can get) I will 'name and shame' them. As I said, I think it's grossly unfair (especially at a time like this) that an organisation would look to blame RM when clearly there is no problem on that score.

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
What seems to be happening as my Mail Centre appears to be clear of any backlog,is stuff collected is going the next day as normal, the 'backlog' has been moved to 'out houses'.
I'm afraid though this will change come Thursday when the national strikes start when stuff collected will be i a backlog.
But also please be aware that a lot of offices at the mo especially in london have a backlog sitting in their offices.

Re: Delays in Redhill area?
Well, the original post has a happy ending - I got both packets, late but otherwise OK, oddly not postmarked (I couldn't even see a franked label or any other markings).
My record of never having anything lost in the post continues!
