Lord Mandelson first came to know the Rothschild family, one of the world's leading banking dynasties, while chairman of the Policy Network think tank.
He has since grown close to Nat, once a member of the notorious Bullingdon drinking club at Oxford University at the same time as Mr Osborne was a student there.
Also:
Mr Rothschild has successfully forged a financial career
at Atticus Capital, which held stakes worth hundreds of millions of dollars in businesses that could be affected by EU trade decisions.
One instance came in 2006 when Mittal Steel mounted a £12.8billion hostile bid for its nearest rival Arcelor, which was based in Luxembourg and had big operations in France.
Atticus Capital had holdings in both companies and was keen for the deal to go ahead in the face of opposition from Luxembourg and France. At the time, Lord Mandelson spoke out in favour of open trade and against 'economic nationalism' and although he was not involved in the decision to approve the deal, sources claim his input was helpful.
Mr Mittal made two political donations of £2million each to the Labour Party before and after his successful bid for Arcelor.

Mandy and Nat are very close friends with Saif al-Islam Muammar Al-Gaddafi (Colonel Gaddafi's son). Makes you think, doesn't it?

A bigger surprise would have been if Mandy was close friends with Colonel Gadaffi's daughter .Jack Mehoff wrote:Jack Mehoff wrote:Quotes from the daily mail:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:You might be right![]()
