Sharpton wants Michael Jackson commemorative stamp

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who will speak this morning at the First AME Church in Los Angeles, is calling on the U.S. Postal Service to issue a stamp in honor of Michael Jackson.

But getting a Jackson stamp could be difficult. According to the New York Daily News, the U.S. Postal Service usually considers memorial stamp requests five years after the subject's death. The post office gets more than 50,000 requests for commemorative stamps annually, according to the USPS.
A representative for the post office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sharpton has emerged as an adviser to the Jackson family in the wake of the pop star's death. He met with Jackson's father, Joe, last week at the family's Encino compound to discuss memorial arrangements and other issues. Sharpton last week had suggested a global, multi-city memorial for the pop star.
