Dennis Kilgariff from Oxford moved a motion calling on the union to withdraw support from MPs who have not backed the union’s Early Day Motion against privatisation.

He said, “Fifteen years ago this union fought to defeat the Tory government’s attempts to privatise Royal Mail.

“Who would have thought that today we’d be fighting over the same issue, but this time our opponent would be a Labour government?”

Labour activist Marion Brain from Birmingham said, “If the government is going to turn things around they’ve got to start delivering for working class people.”

General secretary Billy Hayes opposed the motion. He said, “We’ve got a policy that’s not just about holding individual MPs to account – it’s about the whole government.

“If they are foolish enough to proceed with privatisation we will ballot the membership on whether we will support Labour at the next general election.” Oxford’s motion was defeated in a vote.

This from a man who publically announced he wants a fourth term of Labour government?

Tell you what, instead of a mailshot asking the members to sign up to a CWU credit card, how about a mailshot asking the members if they want to support Labour after the way we've been dumped on by the government?
