sports and social club

Post by bigsharkboy »

oh those where the days i come from quite a small delivery office but we used to have a quite active sports and social club some of my finest memories are of driving to another town in the south west in a bus we use to enter all of the competions for a laugh ,snooker, darts, skittles, ten pin bowling, football, cricket

it always ended up in a huge piss up and monday mornings was always spent discussing the embarrassing incidents of saturday night

it made us a tighter knit unit plus we meet other posties from other offices and we all had the same issues and made some great friends

it was a sad day in our office when royal mail pulled the plug on our club

We had a manager as treasurer of our social club which was fine untill the accounts started having "financial irregularities".Very difficult to prove what went missing as money was being shifted about all over the place, we had several accounts for some reason best known to him, receipts had been "lost" etc,you get the picture.

This manager was shifted sideways to a different office and we were given assurances by the then sector manager that this fella would never set foot in our office again in a managerial capacity.

Guess who started back last monday.

our social club may as well be a golfing society thats all they organize they look after the golfers but us non golfers get f**k all sorted out for us apart from a trip to thorpe park entrance is free but you have to get your own way there useless for non drivers ,thought the idea of a social club was to be social nothing more social than a load of lads on their way to chessington on a coach

I use to love friday after work, all the lads having a beer in the work bar and the canteen making the food.It made us all closer to each other but in the end they closed the bar and made it into an office where we now have our wtl.shame.

Our Dum was the treasurer and still is i guess but up to a few years ago there was about £3000 left in the account, now they used to have to show the accounts every year but know they havent done for a few years
