I am an ex-postie. I thought I would love it but the pressure was too much. A manager refused to pay me o/t I had worked. I went sick with stress at work when the manager said she was reporting me for harrasment for arguing the point. I had an interview with OH which produced a report stating that this was an issue for management to sort out. They chose to totally ignore it. I was on a 1 hour contract so basically every hour counted and I was doing a normal sized (biggest crappiest vacant round that new starters always get) I went back to work, nothing got resolved and there was no help from union, HR or management as they had no concept of how a 1 hour contract worked. It was a weak union that let the abuse of a 1 hour contract creep in and I haver never been in a union where notices of branch meetings were not advertised and the rep was vague when asked. Then again the reps round was a 40 hour with 350 customers in a van, so I don't think he wanted to rock the boat. I had 4 years as a rep at ASLEF and been on numerous courses and college for the union. I think I know a well oiled union when I see one. For nearly 4 months full time work I was rewarded with one and a half hours annual leave and my O/T remained unpaid.
I am now gone but have my ET at the start of June. Bring on Eversheds.

Re: Couldn't Hack It
What i said in my first post is just the basics, I could tell you a lot more, but I can't for obvious reasons. It is great to join a forum where you don't have to prove who you are, and I guess a lot of ex-grads are on here pretending to postman. I am telling you the truth. If you really want to know my identity and you are a proper postie, I will only be too happy to provide. In my case the RM have broken employment laws and hope to get away with it because they know the union is s**t and it is( Not unlike ASLEF) However, Employment laws exist, I think I've been wronged, me and RM can't sort it out between ourselves so I will put it before a judge. I will keep you informed. The funny thing about it is, I was only trying to claim some ot worth about £120 , but it comes to this and it makes me laugh because Eversheds must cost them bundles. Keep strong Postmen and birds who do the job as well.
