The real reason why the government wants a third party is less for service and modernisation but for the government coffers as they have no money even the money they took from us all in tax and royalmails dividend payments in the 1990's and then taxed all the pension funds with FRS-17 accounting procedures!. GORDON BROWN I HAVE ENDED THE CYCLE OF BOOM AND BUST!. HAS BROKE THE UK GOVENMENT AND US ALL!.dvbuk55 wrote:Royal Mails modernisation is a concept and not a plan. A plan is a systematic itemisation of methods, routines and commitments to arrive at a desired point - what we have is savings, savings and mechanisation. There is no structured plan which details exactly how we are going to arrive at the new model Royal Mail - either with or without privatisation. Privatisation is yet another holy grail - someone is going to invest x amount of money for x number of shares and do precisely what? Does anyone know? If they do no-one is spelling it out. On the one hand we have the government saying it is essential and on the other the CWU saying it isn't. Personally I don't believe we need a third party involved providing the government underwrites the pension and they say they will only do that IF a third party invests. Do they want the money from the third party and the money from the pension fund to prop themselves up? It makes you wonder and wish you could put the clock back a few years.dingo wrote:It is ilegal to strike over privitisation. However it is possible to get around this by balloting over Royal Mails plans for the industry.
Big Daz it could be that stike action could also weaken the government resolve as well as the back benches who have signed the early day motion will question why Royal Mail are introducing their modernisation plans without talking to the CWU.
Look the campaign is going well politically and the Government is a lame duck. MPs are going to now be thinking how best to safeguard their own seats so any pressure is worthwhile.
My concern is we are not doing enough to expose Royal Mail`s modernsiation plans as this will be equally damaging to jobs and terms and conditons.

Looks like they're expecting trouble then! And it looks like they're ready for it.

Yep - they took exactly the same action before the 2007 national strikes - looks as though they are expecting a lot of wildcats/local strikes or, and I think probably more likely, will try to get us all to go out.dvbuk55 wrote:Looks like they're expecting trouble then! I can't envisage a wild cat at my office - it just wouldn't happen - I can't tell you how different the place is from when I first started - then managers weren't allowed to touch the mail and postmen ran the whole show and any interference caused a retaliatory action immediately.
Soometimes you cannot wait for the other side to strike first you have to take the "retaliatory" action first - somewhere has voted to take 30 minutes action - well I hope it works - but I think everyone must sit and wonder if it is worth the effort.

I agree 30 minute strikes are a token gesture.Unless its to keep a strike ballot legal I don't see any point behind them apart from making your feelings felt. RM will ignore 30 minute strikes and without solidarity among the work force they will try to target waiverers to work OT to complete etc.dvbuk55 wrote:I can't envisage a wild cat at my office - it just wouldn't happen - I can't tell you how different the place is from when I first started - then managers weren't allowed to touch the mail and postmen ran the whole show and any interference caused a retaliatory action immediately.

Dont get me wrong small duration strikes have their place just that on their own they are not very effective. As part of a arsenal of actions or as a delaying tactic then they can help in the long run and if that's how they are used well done, if not - what is the next step.

The 30min strike is in Scotland to keep the ballot open as they are waiting for others to catch up,when they've all had their 30 mins, watch the fun start.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I agree 30 minute strikes are a token gesture.Unless its to keep a strike ballot legal I don't see any point behind them apart from making your feelings felt. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I'd strike 100%.
To my thinking we should ballot now so that we can hold a gun to the governments head (so to speak).
If they vote it in we hit the streets.
I've never voted no to strike action & I ain't gunna start now.

Re: PART PRIVATISATION WOULD YOU STRIKE OR NOT
Note that the Postcomm press release about RM asking to waive compensation for strike-affected days is dated 7th April, more than two weeks before lovejoy's post on 24th April warned us of RM's plan to impose a pay-freeze (see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=15899" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).dvbuk55 wrote:Looks like they're expecting trouble then! Someone at Royal Mail HQ must have thought there was a small possibility of the workforce not liking the idea of pay being frozen, and set the wheels in motion for a Postcomm waiver, well before we had even been told about the 0% 'offer'.
I wonder why they would think a pay freeze would not be to our liking, seeing the £321m profits our efforts helped to create
NB Just noticed this thread, hence my belated reply.

Best to overestimate them, then catch 'em out and consider ourselves lucky, rather than underestimate them and feel shocked when they out manoever us.BELIAL wrote:I think you give our Lords and Masters too much credit, they are not that bright![]()
