To All Postal Branches

Dear Colleagues

Parcelforce Worldwide and Quadrant Pay Claims

Following a number of enquiries into the department regarding the pay claims for the above two businesses, I can confirm that correspondence was sent submitting our claims to the respective businesses on 23rd February 2009 and copies of these claims are attached to this LTB for information purposes.

Talks have commenced with both businesses and further meetings have been arranged to continue our negotiations.

Would branches therefore please ensure that our members are made aware that the Union is now in negotiations on this year’s pay claim with both these businesses.

Yours sincerely

Terry Pullinger

QUADRANT PAY CLAIM 2009/10

Our Ref : TP/301/09/dw

Date: 23rd February 2009

Managing Director

Dear Steve

QUADRANT PAY CLAIM 2009/10

I am writing to you to formally progress discussions on this years pay claim for our CWU Quadrant members. Whilst we are acutely aware of the current wider financial climate, our pay and reward package discussions traditionally look back on achievement as well as forward and on continued success.

Despite the changes ripping through Royal Mail, Quadrant remains a profitable business and it is appropriate that the efforts of our members should be recognised and rewarded. Turning to the economy we are of course aware that there are a number of measures one can use and that our negotiations normally consider them all, however, you as a business constantly refer to Governments preferred measure the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and it is worth noting that it currently stands at 3.1%.

In our claim this year we wish to discuss progress on the following;

Ø The maximum pay increase possible, flowing through to all overtime and allowances

Ø Increase in the London Weighting payment.

Ø Reduction of the working week to 35 net working hours.

Ø Increase full paid maternity leave from 39 weeks to 1 year coupled with improvements to the other childcare/carers/family friendly provisions of the current package.

Ø Introduction of a week day hourly overtime rate that is no lower than the hourly rate of pay

Ø Introduce a Saturday hourly premium overtime rate.

I know that you are in the process of developing your thoughts for this years pay claim discussions and thought it would be useful for the CWU to clarify their aspirations prior to formal talks commencing.

I thank you for your time and look forward to meeting to discuss the above.

Yours sincerely

PARCELFORCE PAY CLAIM 2009/10

Our Ref : TP/101/09/dw

Date: 23rd February 2009

Mr Peter Macdonald
P&OD Director

Dear Peter

PARCELFORCE PAY CLAIM 2009/10

I am writing to you to formally progress discussions on this years pay claim for our CWU Parcelforce members. Whilst we are acutely aware of the current wider financial climate, our pay and reward package discussions traditionally look back on achievement as well as forward and on our ability to continue to be successful going forward.

In respect of performance the following statements from the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Group, when presenting the recent report on accounts, were extremely positive and surely warrant appropriate reward and recognition for our members:

Ø “Group revenue rose by just over £200million, largely driven by increased sales by GLS and Parcelforce Worldwide…”

Ø “Parcelforce Worldwide grew its revenue in a market where competitive pressures got even tougher, and also increased its profit and maintained its operating margin. Quality of service improved further to 96.5% for the year – an impressive performance in a crowded marketplace…”

The report on accounts also signals the following:

Ø The Annual Review of the business showed that Parcelforce Worldwide growth in revenue volume was over 10%, outpacing the UK express parcels market in 2007-08. PFW also provided high quality of service, improving on the previous year’s performance.

Ø Parcelforce appears to have been the only business unit that made an operating profit over the period 2007-2008.

In regard to the economy there are as we know a number of measures one can use and our negotiations have traditionally considered them all, however you as a business have constantly promoted the Governments preferred measure the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and that currently stands at 3.1%.

Equally, our approach over the last couple of years has been to develop the employment package beyond the considerations of just pay related issues. As such we have sought to develop a three stranded approach to pay and benefits around the issues of pay and productivity, health benefits and training and development, and we would wish to continue the momentum of enhancement on all those strands.

As well as an increase in all aspects of the actual pay package, including productivity reward, we wish to explore with you in these talks the following:

Ø Special Responsibility Allowance for transport duties.
Ø The introduction of CWU graded depot trainers with an allowance.
Ø Moving the monthly pay date to the 20th of each month.
Ø The introduction of a 35hr working week.

Whilst the above represents some specifics for discussion we would also wish to discuss expanding the health benefits section of the package to include dental provision and general fitness incentive support. In regard to training we would like to explore how development opportunities in regard to life long learning can be extended to all and how government and employer funded skills development programmes could be available to enable individuals to acquire skills beyond the core and expand their own skills portfolio.

I hope you consider it useful to know our thoughts in advance of this years talks and I look forward to arranging a meeting with you soon to commence our discussions.

Yours sincerely

Shall i email Tel bout the D2D shite then :hmmmm
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
