I Don't like....Saturday!

Post by robd »

On the one hand we hear Royal Mail have lost another multi million pound contract, but it doesn't affect the delivery element
due to downstream access agreement,or does it?
previously most of the major bulk postings were carried on our mailsort3,giving the option of a monday delivery(and duefully taken!)
TNT are now offering a premium two day service(virtually guaranteeing saturday delivery)for pre sorted mail.
Personally, i've noticed a difference in the amount of mail due for delivery on saturday in the last month or so,but it looks
set to get even worse,
look at this..

could soon be the worst day of the week!?? :d'oh!

every customer seems important to our rivals, whilst our lot dont seem to give a toss, tnt tailers their service to their customers needs but we are doing half the work anyway so why are we not doing theses things first and better, cut back, cut back, thats all we see with our 3 to 400 year old traditions time we got into the 21st century and changed things
as to saturday my finish time is about 50 mins later than it used to be mainly thanks to downstream access my point though is we are providing these services for tnt why cant we do it for ourselves

We must be doing something.........musn't we  at one time i noticed that the 2nd class went up on a saturdays and Mailsort down then after a while it went back the other way.
At one time i thought they were pushing Mailsort through on the 2nd class ticket.
Now tbh i don't know what they're doing,it fluctuates so much.

I do rem in the Courier them saying how important Saturdays were in that businesses wanted their s**t to mostly be delivered then as the public have more time to read the catalogues and flyers and what nots.
But if it's all Mailsort which sometimes there's loads of it,like you say that aint no good.
Again, unless they're doing a special rate and sending it 2nd class.
Tbh,to leave it as it is,when new products are being launched everywhere is plain suicide,or is that a plan in action.........

sounds like a plan, i must admit i have started looking for the for sale sign on the building when i come in on a morning
we have been told that things are been done to get customers back but no details just lots
i also seem to remember in the courier of new products been mentioned no details but they were to come in later that year(last year now)ive seen nothing up our way dont know about anyone else
are postmen now going the same way as the band on the titanic, trying to continue as normal as the ship sinks into the icy waters
parcel force a few years ago was drastically restructured including getting rid of many customers and giving the trade to other firms plus owner operators etc counters have seen drastic reductions, closures etc maybe its needed or just our turn

Got another link today.
The BRC represents 85% of UK retailers, including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda.
The company (TNT)is looking to expand its retail client roster, which includes Ocado, Next and Sainsbury's.

Seems to me that TNT if they wanted and tried hard enough could probably get a hell of a lot more work off of us.
Nick Wells, chief executive of TNT Post, said: "Retailers are especially important to TNT Post and we are currently working with a number of businesses in this sector.

To be honest,if they carry on the way they are,we are well and truly f****d,their E2E network will have more than enough to make a profit and expand.

ALL I REMEMBER IS FROM THE COURIER NOTHING ELSE HAS BEEN MENTIONED.SEEN NOWT,HEARD NOWT,IN FACT DO NOWT SEEMS TO BE THE ORDER OF THE YEAR, THE TOP BOYS SEEM TO BE PUSHING TNT ONWARDS AT THE MOMENT.
I STILL SUSPECT THAT ALL THAT IS HAPPENING IS THAT WE ARE BEEN PUSHED INTO WHATEVER BUSINESS MODEL THE TOP BOYS HAVE IN MIND FOR THE FUTURE BUT YOU BET THAT THERE WILL BE A HELL OF A LOT LESS OF AT THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

I posted this link at the start of this thread, and the point i was making was this, last week in our WTLL the DOM spoke
about not being able to compete on costs, but i pointed out that this was not the overall factor in our decline of contracts.
The fact that we couldn't and still don't(too my knowledge)offer a saturday option for delivery is leaving us at the mercy of
our competitors.
Given that most of the companys want that brochure to hit the mat on a saturday,TNT has listened and responded.
Saturday will certainly get a lot busier for us,but more of a concern must be, the real impact day for delivery is sunday, when 90% of a target group are at home,i put this hypothetical question to my DOM, if TNT could negotiate contracts
to deliver on the sabbath, looks like yours truly will end taking them! :pray

I've just e-mailed big Al about what products we're looking at and about the TNT and BRC tie up :nervous
As for Sunday, would this generate MORE Mail or just the same Mail on a different day, cause now you're talking about extra Docket ect to deliver the stuff,so that's the profits going down, more expence.
Unless TNT deliver it themselves when they go live with their E2E network but that will only be in a few places(for the mo anyway)
But then again you've got our part timers.......
