i have just been accepted into the royal mail group. my name is freya, im 26. i start next week workin in a sorting office, night shifts.

does anyone have advice as to what i might expect durin my first weeks ahead?

Hi! When you said Sorting Office, which type did you mean?
I work in a Regional Distribution Centre (RDC). But there are also Mail Centres (MC).

There are lots of people from the MCs, and they have their own Section http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... m.php?f=26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . But there are also several others from the RDCs.

i have worked for small companies before who take u for granted, this is my first job with a union!

I'll leave you to make your mind up on that one. It can be all down to the manager in charge of you - I have one Female manager who is easily the best in the office, while some of the men are real ........................

The Union is generally good in RM as it is a voice for the workers and if you are ever interviewed on a work related matter they can be utilised as either an advocate to help you state your case, or as witness to ensure RM follow all their own regulations and standards. I strongly suggest joining the CWU and that's from someone who was never in a Union before.
