Welcome John - Unfortunately I think its classed as delay of mail if we refuse to take theirs but take our own.

Arh but if we arrived at an address who had a sticker on their door asking for only Royal Mail products only. Would we not just be following customers instructions and so would be justified in killing tnt ukpost off?

Competitors mail is not the problem, it's the poor management who hid their heads in the sand until after the market was opened up, then they blamed the postmen for all the problems (in a WTLL session we were told that because we hit or exceeded delivery targets customers downgraded their post to cheaper options).
The management idiots should have fought the opening up of the market (like everywhere else in Europe) and invested in new equipment years ago not leaving it all until it's too late (unless that was their intention [big conspiracy theory]).

totally agree with the above the conspiracy is that leighton and crozier are using our competitors as a poor excuse to get there agenda in regarding pay and conditions

we have been discussing the competion in wtl for years why try slamming the stable door after the horse has bolted

There would be even more problems with such a sticker. It's a great idea in theory, but I don't like the idea of sending back mobile phone bills, credit card bills, and then when they're unpaid, sending back debt collection letters, court summons letters, and when the bailiffs arrive explaining that I never received any correspondance because I opted out of receiving downstream access mail.

There's so much important mail sent by companies using downstream access, it would be very damaging to the individual concerned to send back letters.

What we need is either to be a fullly privatised company allowed to charge what we want for DSA (we charge too much they won't use us) or a fully Nationalised Company - Not the half way house we have at the moment.

Fully agree with everything in this thread as well, the sticker idea was a bit tongue cheek.

Its got to be a fully Nationalised company T.B.T.Why because when run with the aim off providing a service at a fair price we can deliver the best postal service in the world,as we have been for the last 350 years.

Bit cheezed off at my workmates who knew i was away and left it there

A good point. I use keepsafe when I'm on holiday, but if competitors are going to start delivering to households, then stopping the post with one company won't stop the post with everyone, and undermines the purpose of having keepsafe in the first place.

However, postal companies who want to deliver to households could sign up to some agreement that keepsafe and redirection applies to all companies in the scheme, not just Royal Mail.

When you stop and chat with customers, mention it to them. You would get into trouble for telling them outright to do it but mention writing to their power suppliers etc and asking them to use RM. The same when I killed off dead letters from another company, always write 'use Royal Mail' next to their postmark. i still do that now when I get mail for previous occupants.

Now thats a good idea. Stamping returned mail with NEXT TIME USE ROYAL MAIL across it. I must go out and find somewhere to customise a rubber stamp. But also we should be charging the likes of TNT when we kill off their mail. I cant belive that they would not charge us for double handling mail.
But why oh why is the C.W.U. not mounting a campaign agaist downstream access. It needs more public awarness of the subject because the public are totaly unaware of the way we are being prostituted to any joe soap who wants to set up a mail company. My wife summed it up WOULD ASDA SELL TESCO BAKED BEANS FOR HALF THE PRICE OF THEIR OWN BRAND THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT PROFIT LOSS. Dont think so!!!!!!!
