I ordered a book by Amazon last week they said it would take 4 weeks as it was a pre-order - today I got an email saying it was being sent by Special Delivery Friday - If I was not on holiday are you saying that I have to give up a days work to wait in for it if I did not work for Royal Mail.dog bait wrote:how many specials have you tried to deliver but noones in..thats next dayTrueBlueTerrier wrote:dog bait wrote:just as a side thought.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Why should she its our job to deliver packets and she has a life beyond waiting in for packets if we have to redeliver we have to redeliver - and turn off the caps lock -

why do you think its acceptable that people who are expecting delivery ,dont have to be their.
we redeliver only because its cheaper than sending it back.not because its anything they paid for.but thats just led to everyone expecting to be abscent so they can phone up and get a day specific delivery.
i dont order a pizza delivery then bugger of out and expect a free redeliver at a time of my choosing
personally id make every one of them trot up the do {unless they can produce a blue badge}
Pizza takes 1 hour maximum - 30 minutes for my area
Standard parcels take 3 to 5 days not a good comparison.
they know when theve ordered it ,why arnt they in?

Posties Who leave a card but don't have the parcel
Our Postie is fantastic - the other day he saw me driving down our lane and flagged me down as he had a parcel that required a signature - no card an a trip to the post office which for me is 5 miles away. He saved me an 10 mile round trip and a load of time.
No complaints at all. My wife buys a loads on ebay and a few times a week he turns up like Santa a couple of times a week. He is always friendly and cheerful and from my perspective tries AND delivers a fantastic service.
I had a temp work for me for a few weeks and after she left it was a nightmare. Until I worked out her system - if in doubt you file under M for Mr or M for Mrs.
It is not really fair to put too much critism on the service when a temp is involved.
From my perspective I have had no issues on post service even when they have been.

That's disgraceful! It's one thing to miss the first attempted delivery, if you weren't expecting it on that day (quicker or slower than anticipated). But to request redilivery, and not be in. That's the sort of person you SHOULD be complaining about.dog bait wrote:im saying that if you know when its due ,as you do,you should make arrangments for someone to take delivery.at the very least phone the sorting office and tell them you wont be in to collect.its called consideration in my bookTrueBlueTerrier wrote:I ordered a book by Amazon last week they said it would take 4 weeks as it was a pre-order - today I got an email saying it was being sent by Special Delivery Friday - If I was not on holiday are you saying that I have to give up a days work to wait in for it if I did not work for Royal Mail.dog bait wrote:how many specials have you tried to deliver but noones in..thats next dayTrueBlueTerrier wrote:dog bait wrote:just as a side thought.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Why should she its our job to deliver packets and she has a life beyond waiting in for packets if we have to redeliver we have to redeliver - and turn off the caps lock -

as stated before ,redelivery is their only because it costs royal mail twice as much to return everything not delivered.
if it incurred a service charge i garentee a whole lot more people would be in.
in a similar vain to yours yesterday i had a very bad day.
forgot to take a pen opps .ok though redelivered all those that didnt answer today.but yesterday i was pulling my hair out
then i put a special in the front pocket of a bag.chang{4.5hrs delivery}.when i got to his house i knocked anyway hoping they wouldnt mind if i came back with it as it was 12.40 .or id go straight and get it if they wanted to leave therby getting it thier by one pm....
fooking suprise no answer.great i thought ill come back after getting a pen from my mrs at the post office
got to the post office looked got pen went to my bag for special....got it went all the way back
stood at door again banged on door looked to fill in p739....it was the same special i attempted to deliver on monday.requested redelivery friday and still couldnt be arsed to be in.
he cost the firm alot of money for a service that is meant for the infirmed or disabled and still couldnt give a xxxx.
But just because there are some ignorant people you have to deal with. It doesn't mean that you should assume that everyone is the same. Some people are caught out, because they make an honest mistake about which day a parcel is due. Or have to leave the House unexpectedly. There are even occasions, when they don't know there's one coming. Lightbulbs for example.

I have read all the posts and it seems simple to me. The postie was in the wrong. We have procedures to follow, which clearly he didn`t. All of us on foot know how much more difficult it is with packet deliveries. JUST DO THE JOB PROPERLY, SPLIT DOWN YOUR BAGS. It will take you longer, I know. From a customers perspective, its no good complaining to local management, they know how difficult it is but wont address the problems. Complaints need to be made to customer services. These are recorded. If enough complaints are made, management will have to address the problems.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I sympathise with those customers in this thread , but if i had a penny for the amount of times and the abuse i have had from customers who swea blind that they were in, espeacially on a saturday morning after a little drink or two, i wouldnt have to get up at 4am everyday, 99% of posties do thier job correctly, when everything is fine , ie you get yor mail on time etc no problem, but as soon as one little thing goes wrong customers tend to exaggerate

SOMETIMES
IF YOU ARE SELLING ITEMS ON EBAY,THE WORST THING TO DO IS SEND THEM BY RECORDED LETTER.
BECAUSE OFTEN THE RECEPIENT IS OUT WHEN THE POSTIE COMES,SO THEY DONT GET ITEM UNTIL THEY HAVE TIME TO PICK IT UP FROM CALLERS OFFICE.
ALSO POSTIES ARE TRYING TO DO CUSTOMER A FAVOUR BY LEAVING A CARD,BECAUSE WE FEEL CUSTOMER WILL BE OUT,AND IF WE LEAVE CARD, CUSTOMER CAN PICK IT UP FROM CALLERS OFFICE BEFORE 6 PM,INSTEAD OF WAITING TILL NEXT DAY. IF YOU RECEIVE A LOT OF PACKETS,AND ARE OFTEN OUT,TRY TO MAKE ALTERNATE ARRANGEMENTS,LIKE A TRUSTWORTHY NEIGHBOUR.

You've never sold lots of items on ebay then!taxi4leighton wrote:SOMETIMES

There are too many people out there who claim they're item wasn't delivered, paypal will refund them leaving seller out of pocket for money and item. That is why it is essential a sign for service is used to prove delivery of the item, and anything over £30 should be special.

Posties Who leave a card but don't have the parcel
I quite often on my delivery knock and card for deliveries without having the parcel on me. ***Before you all shout at me read why and you'll understand***. My delivery covers many areas not acceesible by the van but when parcels are too heavy or bulky for my bag with post i will knock to check someone is in (especially when I have parcels every otherday and they ar never in) prior to walking round to the house for the second time, and if there is no answer i leave a card. This can save me 10-15 minutes per parcel when people are not in. And if they are I explain that i have a large or heavy parcel for them and i'll be back with it with 10-mins minutes. Normally everyone is ok with this an ensures that I neither have to carry it round and then back again. Also I regulary catch people in cars and walking down the street when I've either missed them with a parcel or have one for them its all ggod service as it saves me taking it back to office and them having to go to the office. most of us are good at our jobs know the area's we work well and many of the customers we deliver to, however its unfortunate that we are let down by a few who arn't.

100 items with the 72p RD cost is £72 plus your postage cost
depends on your business model as to whether you want to deal with RM claims and save £72
or spend £72 and directly (possibly) bat off PP disputes
