I honestly feel like I could go at any moment. I’ve done over 35 years and have had enough. The toxic culture, not to mention getting home from work and being too tired to do anything. I really feel burnt out. I’ll see how DM26 goes when they implement it in our office, but that could be the final straw. I have savings, so if I do go I can afford to take some time off before looking elsewhere.

I don't mind the job (once outdoors). It's all the messing about, the faff, and the bullshit we have to wade through to get there

The dynamics of the job have certainly changed over the past decade or more.

Since DM26 got introduced last month, I have completely changed on how I work, and so should everyone else.

I clock in on time, take breaks, do a full van inspection, drive sensibly, no rushing or running around, no shortcuts on delivery, make sure gates are shut properly (unless left open), make sure Specials are done before 1pm, make sure all mail is posted through the letterbox, I will casually walk, like I'm walking in the park on a Sunday (there's no mandatory speed), clock out on time, go home, chill and forget about all the sh!+ you left behind.

Exactly. Don't like being in the sun until 1630? Well it'll be December soon and you can experience being soaked in the dark instead.

It's all good and well someone saying 'just work to your time' when they're still living in a world of weekday 1400 finishes. Most people here drew a line in the sand over being out past 1500 two years ago and the company just pushed it to 1600 and beyond regardless.

I hardly ever did OT and preferred to complete on time at 1330 way back, yet here I am now out on the street an hour after the schools have emptied. No amount of refusing to stay out can undo that.

I've been in the job 20 years, when I first started I honestly thought I would never leave. But the past few years have really taken a strain on me. I can't stand coming in every day and being unable to complete, watching the work pile up and then having a day off and literally nothing is even touched. Managers that hide in their office and don't even have the common courtesy to say Good morning let alone ask if your OK. On paper the job should be simple, deliver parcels and put bits of paper through holes in doors. But years of cutting costs have led to where we are today. So for the first time in 20 years I'm looking to retrain and start a new career.

Having LAT shifts is one of the few things stoping RM from going UK wide with later (4-5pm) finish times across the board.

Had enough one day in the week, resignation letter delivered, following day I was day off, and never returned.
Feel sorry for the people left behind, I got fed up helping others out, yet whilst doing so, other person was sat on mobile phone daily whilst I perform their work.
Luckily I have some savings until pension comes through

Quite a few in our office have voiced they are planning to quit, they are being told by our CWU rep to knock off of sick with stress & refuse to come back, he seems to think you will get paid off?

Had a fair few go recently from our office on IHR, personally think that is the only way you are going to get any payoff from RM, can't believe people still think they will hang on for VR

nothing told along those lines but we recently had a 'problem' guy go off sick for 6 months then paid off

When I first started, I was in a terrible office - spent 2 years there, and was ready to quit until I transferred to another office. That’s where it hit me how good a job this could be, and I’ve lived in that bliss for most of the time since. The introduction of DM26 is unfortunately the culmination of all the negative energy of the last couple of years, and this office that I once loved has become as toxic, arguably moreso, than the one I transferred out of.

Sadly, for me, it’s done. I shan’t rush out of the door into a worse job, but I’m actively looking now for a new opportunity. Half my mates have left already, and the other half are that way headed. Emotionally, I’m already “out”, it’s just a waiting game now for the day when reality imitates my imagination. It’s a shame because, for a decent while, I got to experience the good life - an enjoyable job that didn’t always feel like working.

When me and the lads who have already left get together and chat, we all say that there’s never been another job like it. It feels kind of sad, but if you’re all saying it, then it’s obviously true and something to cherish. I guess, just like all relationships, they end bitterly, and this is where we’re at. There’ll be a mixture of fondness and frustration when I reflect on the state of it all, but we all knew privatisation was a one-way ticket to shitness, and now that we’re here, you accept it and move on.
