RM bosses don't want it to work and they know it can't work.

But failure will open up the opportunity to remove the mail delivery side of the operation. With the potential to renationalise the letters side of the operation and retain the profitable parcels. As long as they have shown they "tried" to make it work is all they need.

Then the company can embrace its wildest fantasies, often seen leaked on here to make the latest agreement look highly conservative: no DOs, just owner-drivers pulling into a car park in an industrial estate while an HGV offloads walk-sorted yorks of packets straight off the back fresh from the IDS-owned Superhub. The MCs will have all been flogged off for the land under them and IDS will charge the government exorbitant fees to process stuff through the Superhub(s). As for the drastically reduced cohort left with the letters to deliver, it'll be the Yodel model where a van comes by your house and slings some trays. Zero local infrastructure.

RM are laughing. Kretinsky chuckles. They absolutely love the way that they get no blame for the shambles they have created. Only the union which tried to stop it is blamed.

OFCOM agreed with RM to allow them to deliver 2c every other day and not at all on a Saturday. So DM26 or Heavy & Light, was on the cards from the day of that decision.

RM wanted the ODM which would have resulted in more job losses. The CWU successfully argued for a lesser version, DM26.

If DM26 doesn’t work, RM will have to stop trying to make their cuts via the backs of posties. Perhaps they should start looking at other parts of the business.

But in the meantime for the love of Mike, stop blaming the union for a shambles created by RM management.
