PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE.........

Post by kudos »

......THE REGULATOR/ POST COMM

statement from st postie
with these 2 feckin idiots in charge we have no future as an industry surely they should be banging on the powers that be door to get the regulator to loosen the strings so we can compete with the likes of tnt and buisness post and every other tom dick and harry who are given a license to deliver mail cant the regulators see that these firms are cherry picken our buisness
thank you, that statement sums up why i voted yes, we are not the problem, royal mail cant solve the problem, the only solution must come from the regulator, us, the union and royal have issues but the one person creating them and who has the power to remove most of them is the regulator, the monkeys are fighting but the organ grinder has escaped any media attention, that should be our and royal mails focus as it is the only way to sort this out, give us a even playing field and let us show what we can do, remove the unfair restrictions and we the royal mail staff are the only company that can provide the complete service the public deserve.

with the yes vote we the royal mail workers, royal mail the company and the public need to take on PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER 1, anything that happens from this moment on rests at the door of one person, the one person that is suppose to protect the whole uk postal service

REGULATOR whats happens now is up to you..................YOU DECIDE

Very good post and a very good point.
Although i think it's more complicated than, what with the EU s**t.
I'm sure FOzzie could shed some more on it.
But the regulator does need a good kickin!

re: Regulator's role

Post by F0zziebear »

The regulator was brought in by the government to give RM a bloody nose and open it upto competition.
RM is not as efficient as it could be - FACT. Does it need to be 40% more efficient no. We are not comparing like for like. The competitors are processing easy to handle mail. RM and others need to weight mail in terms of it's difficulty to handle before comparing itself to the others (hope that makes sense). I reckon RM needs to be somewhere in the region of 25% more efficient. To do this they need fewer mail centres on one floor with the latest letter/flat sorting machines. They also need to remove most of IPS as this should be automated in the 21st century. One can then remove human resource as well. This isn't what you necessarily want to hear, but we all know that it is needed.

RM would then be able to compete more effectively, but should recognise that it will never be able to compete on direct mail prices as the competition will always be more efficient.

As for EU situation. Basically the UK is quicker to implement EU law/regulations. France is bound by the unions who don't want any competition to impact on their jobs and terms (maybe a lesson in hindsight) but then France has it's own problems. Germany and Holland are feeling the impacts of competition like you are. The difference is that they have taken their money and gone to compete in other country's, like RM did under the Consignia name, but screwed it up. RM is now weaker in that sense and can only battle on it's own domestic front.

The government are happy to take profits from RM, but are eseentially implementing Thatcher's privatisation/free market mantra. Gordon Brown in my opinion is no different, and it's his department who gave the RM the modernisation loan, but with strings attached. So who you gonna vote for at the next election? Green Tories in their cloaks, or prudent Gordon and his loans with strings.

Maybe Ming the merciless is a better bet? An OAP, drunkard and rent-boy, ok so maybe not the ideal alternative. What about the greens?

I responded to Jeremy Warner by the way and one of his mates called me. I attempted to put him right about competition winning contracts, and the fact that Royal Mail still delivers 99% of all mail. He didn't seem to know that and suggested he informed his readers!

Let's see what he writes in their next piece on the potential strike

He mentioned he'd had some responses, but said I had put the view across in a slightly less 'confrontational' way. I didn't mention the website as I would prefer to remain relatively annonymous. I'm sure the website will become more focal if/when a strike actually looms.
