I was talking to a new start this week who told me part of their induction is being on a Zoom call (muted) with over 300 other people. From what he told me, in the text chat when asked to post their starting times his was among the latest visible. That suggests to me that this large group of inductees are nationally representative and not limited to Scotland where we had the particular pleasure more than most of being royally shafted in the last network review.

This is supposed to be, or lamentably used to be, the quietest time of year and DM26 is here and all about reducing staffing so it would be odd for this to be an example of unusually intense recruitment. However, for the sake of playing with a calculator: if we were to extrapolate 300 a week over 44 non-peak weeks a year, that would be over 10,000 new starts annually.

Do we have anyone on here that worked the ODM system but now is doing DM26 and thinks it is better?

Revisions after a load of arguements , mind games etc , def not a nice place of work to . So if you are say one of the lucky ones and you make the dutys work ( maybe cause youre a harder worker than some not saying i am btw lol) Then come the re sign in a few months, bang someone jumps into your duty after what uve put into the duty and done. Its not a great situation to be in , esp knowing some are lazy , feels like a sitting duck lol

What exactly can you do to make a duty work? And what's stopping you doing that in the duty you land on after the re-sign?

What constitutes a heavy and light bag?

I’m in a pod on the singleton covering two duties. One of the frames is manageable (just) but the other is way too big and I’m doing 8 or 9 bags of mail+tracked packets and large parcels, along with tracked and first class on the other frame. Some of the bags are heavier than others but the heavy ones are incredibly heavy.

Bags are only as heavy as you make them.

Use a trolley. Break loops down into smaller sections.

Personally I've not carried a heavy bag for 15+ years.

If it takes longer that's your managers problem.

You've got to wonder how much of that was being adhered to in the initial ODM trials - remember, it' the failure of that that has got us to where we are with DM26.

The ODM trial offices converted over to Heavy & Light (aka DM26) last Christmas and not much has been heard of them since. One must assume the proof is in the pudding, hence the national rollout.
