Broken service

Post by jessicarabbit »

I joined RM in 1994 left in 2003 rejoined in 2005 and for my sins am still currently working. I've finally got onto my RMSPS portal and as I suspected it has my date of joining the pension as Jan 05 when I rejoined RM. Where/how do I find what I put in between 94-03?

Unless you opted out, you should have pension relating to 1994-2003.
RMSPS are responsible for your benefits up to 2012, so you need to query it with them.
See their website for contact details.

Update.

The website has been so clunky on my phone that just for a Sunday morning whim I fired up the old laptop and logged into the RMSPS portal. Hidden away in one of the menu options was 'other records' and lo and behold I found my 'deferred' pension with the service and associated quote from my first period of employment.

So......what to do with this little extra deferred pot. Does it have to stay where it is or can I combine it with any of my ongoing concerns or transfer it somewhere else so that I can see it actually growing???

As I'm hitting 53 next month all of a sudden pensions seem very interesting and I'm trying to gather as much info as possible so I can make some good informed choices in the next few years and get out around 60 with a good chunk of money and an income and hopefully can drop to PT or finish altogether.

It should have been growing with inflation since 2003 and will continue to do so until you take it at 60(or earlier) and then in payment.

As the RMSPS is an unfunded government backed scheme, it's not possible to transfer out to anything other than another defined benefit pension, which you would have to be an active employee member of.
The RMCPP isn't DB so you have no option other than to leave it to slowly grow.

I briefly knew someone who worked at a neighbouring office. She was in the same boat. She left to have kids. Then rejoined. She took both her pensions and was working at the care home I deliver to. She had a section B pension, and section C pension. Plus her earnings from the job. Hope that helps.
