DM26 Part Time Start Times

Post by ChrisMH »

In typical RM and CWU fashion we are being asked to pick between different work patterns with just a smidge of information. The only info we have in our DO relates to full timers start times all being set at 0710. Does anyone know what the start for 35, 32 and 30 hours might be? So far the only advice I've had is work it based on what you do now.

There won't be a blanket time across RM, it will be down to individual offices

I would say you would work backwards. So base it on the end time of the FT staff. Eg 4pm finish, 30 hour contract would start at 10am.

Yep, the only difference between FT and PT is indoor workload. Outdoor is aligned so they must sign out at the same time at the end of the day (and it will be the end of the f***ing day this December).
The machine stops.

By law you are entitled to a 20 minute break if you work more than 6 hours a day.
At Royal Mail you get 40 minutes, 20 minutes to be taken in the morning and 20 minutes whilst on delivery.
If you are lucky then your COM will allow you to take the 20 minutes at the end and allow you to clock out early.

There is not a mandatory 30 minute break by law. It is best not to publish information that is incorrect on the forum.

Indeed it's best not publish information that is incorrect. The post 22 contracts are entitled to the stipulations of the working time regulations. There is no agreement that the post 22 contracts get 40 minutes break. Workers report that they are receiving the 20 minute unpaid break where they work more than 6 hours.

Thanks for the replies everyone, currently our office start times are different everyday for 30 Hr PT ranging from 0830 to 0914. Makes it a little complicated.

SO legacy contracts are entitled to a 40 minute break which is normally broken into two separate 20 minute breaks.

You are stating that New contracts are only entitled to a 20 minute break which is part of their contract and the minimum given by UK law if working over 6 hours.

Regardless there is no 30 minute break by law.

Im glad we can clarify this information on the message board. It helps everyone to be informed.

(I think is is very wrong that new contracts are only given the 20 minute minimum and it needs more clarification when this should be being took)
Let's not use the devisive language of legacy and new starters. Its pre 22, post 22. Some of the post 22 workers are amongst the most senior in their offices!!! There could be a 30 minutes break by law. The working time regulations stipulate the minimum. Workers can improve that and it would be governed by employment law. The CWU believe they can secure paid breaks for the post 22 contracts. If they do it'll be years away.
