The employer's duty of care for the employee, and their workmates?
Pretty basic stuff really.

Now, I'm not one to create a totally unlikely situation, but given that a lot of our staff socialise together, and we won't be unique in that - what happens if a driving and non driving pairing both come in to work clearly a little worse for wear on a Saturday morning. Driver gets tested and offered Support and Rehab. No S and R for the person who doesn't drive?

No because the non driver isn't driving a lump of metal capable of killing people if not driven correctly.Perseus wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026, 16:08Now, I'm not one to create a totally unlikely situation, but given that a lot of our staff socialise together, and we won't be unique in that - what happens if a driving and non driving pairing both come in to work clearly a little worse for wear on a Saturday morning. Almost remember van sharing with an alcoholic. Steaming drunk and loud in the mornings. Manager just told him to settle down with a coffee before driving out. Mad when I look back .

But not worthy any support/rehab? That is the route the CWU/RM want to take it down.thefox wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026, 17:25No because the non driver isn't driving a lump of metal capable of killing people if not driven correctly.Perseus wrote: ↑16 Jul 2026, 16:08Now, I'm not one to create a totally unlikely situation, but given that a lot of our staff socialise together, and we won't be unique in that - what happens if a driving and non driving pairing both come in to work clearly a little worse for wear on a Saturday morning. Someone has drink/drug issues and it's the employer's responsibility to fix it?
I suppose they'd want to do any remedial actions in work time too?

Re: WTL regarding drink and drugs
Yes, there is help for anyone who asks for it within Royal Mail. This new agreement reads like a type of intervention with a strong focus on support and rehab. On the face of it, dismissal seems to be way, way down the road.

Re: WTL regarding drink and drugs
I’ve noticed in our office the manager going down the frames first thing in the morning, chatting or should I say monitoring people ever since this came out last week. It’s obvious what he’s doing because he completely misses out the people on the HCT duties and moves to the next van share.
