A lot of the non drivers in my office are always pissed on Saturdays, who will determine if they are fit for work?

Apparently, it's not going to be random:

The testing is on a "for-cause" basis only, meaning there is no random testing.
A check can only happen where there is a specific, justified reason, such as a manager suspecting a driver is unfit to be behind the wheel, and it applies to driving roles rather than the whole workforce.

So you can come in pissed, as long as you aren't driving.....

If you knowingly turn up to work over the alcohol limit or on recreational drugs you are putting yourself and everyone else at risk, I have no sympathy for people who do this.
Any other business do the same testing, a company I deliver to sacked 2 for this last week. One of them had the choice to pay for a blood test to prove his innocence, he declined

Does this apply to managers as well?

Do you need to be sober to drink coffee and walk around agitating people?

It says so in the letter above.

I remember from last year that this idea ruffled quite a few feathers with people believing that RM were overstepping the mark and infringing on peoples rights to have a drink the night before. Not quite sure why, like any other company that does this, it only applies to driving staff. Especially when they are keen to promote the support and rehab services.

Its weird that RM think we could afford a a drug habit on the new entrants wages. Shows how out of touch the directors are :chuckle
Legacy probably can afford it though :hmmmm

It's simple, you have a drink you don't even look at a vehicle for a clear day (you drink Monday you don't drive until Wednesday, etc). Oh I will be alright the next day :evil/mad

Not at all. When BR brought it in decades ago it equally applied to maintenance and repair staff employed in the local loco works. For the sake of fairness checks were applied to all grades.

That's why I said 'not quite sure why' in relation to why it's just driving staff. Being high at work shouldn't only be an issue if you drive.

So anyone taking over-the-counter & prescription medication should not be driving.

Opioid Painkillers Strong, prescription-only pain relief can cause severe drowsiness, dizziness & slow your reaction times.

Benzodiazepines & Anti-Anxiety Tablets These medications are designed to calm the central nervous system, meaning they can significantly reduce alertness & concentration.

If you feel dizzy, sleepy, or struggle to concentrate, you must not get behind the wheel.

I don’t see the issue with it to be honest.
