We work in a cluster of three offices and it’s costing the new starters a fortune in petrol when they’re sent to the furthest office about 15 miles away but there is a doubt as to whether they’re entitled to it
Tell them not to use their own cars then!
They have to mate otherwise the base office will be short of vans
How is that the posties issue?

Simple, don't turn up in your own car

I was only ever sent to another office once and I told my manager I needed taking there and dropping back off at my normal start and finish times. That lasted for one day and never happened again.
🤣🤣🤣yip that ought to do it well played sir.

They really don't have to though - it's not their problem if there aren't enough vans.

Just park away from work a bit and walk into the office, or just say you were dropped off.

I got paid mileage when I was being bounced around on loan to different DOs. Keep your fuel receipts and your manager can submit an expenses claim. Mine was paid into my bank account separately to my wages. I did have to hassle my manager for months before he eventually did it. After that they started offering me a van instead or an extra hour overtime on top of my actual hours worked as it was easier to give me an hour's ghost OT than claim the miles. They offered 30 minutes at first but I haggled citing wear and tear on my car etc. I'm on a new contract btw.

If you're sent to another office, you should come in to your regular office on time, get a van and then drive to the other office, you come back to your regular office for finishing time. If they've no vans it's their problem.

I got sent to an office 20 miles away years ago. Insisted on a van. Easiest day I have ever had, manager at said office had a whole job bundled up for me to take out, took it delivered half a loop then took my break returned his mail and went back to my own office to finish on time. Funny enough it never happened to me again.
