Pretty sure we all had to work during the summer of 2022 when it hit 40 degrees across the UK, so I'm not surprised they aren't suspending deliveries for 35 degrees.

When it happened before we were allowed to return to the office when the hourly temperature forecast hit 35 degrees, which i seem to recall was 1pm in our case and all tracked and specials were expected to be done

Temperatures are still forecast to drop daily from tomorrow onwards. Although Friday is still forecast to be 30c+ so still pretty hot.

A "long hot summer" is fairly normal.

Sustained daily temperatures in danger to life territory are not. Yet.

2018 was 3 revisions ago and not even 10% of the tracked we now have

That was also a red warning (for snow) in afflicted areas and deliveries were suspended in time to send everyone home before the commencement of the warning.

To my recollection there was no requirement to clear any outstanding Tracked (of which there wasn't much at the time) although that might have been because the warning was issued on only about two hours notice. In this case there's been plenty of warning, and given how delivery times have been pushed back over the years I would expect the company to have a pre-existing robust emergency plan to deal with these predictable scenarios.

The danger to life is not solely the temperature, it's also the humidity. In the warning area temperatures and humidity are high and for the red warning area, an immediate danger to life. The CWU's agreement certainly does not help members.

I dont understand the logic of closing schools when the kids are wandering around shopping centres or worse swimming in rivers and jumping off bridges ?
Surely classrooms whilst uncomfortable are hardly dangerous.
And postmen expected to continue outside in extreme heat ?

Classrooms will exceed the 35 degree mark. Its a lot of human life in a small space, very often poorly ventilated. Workers are failed by the failure of the trade union movement to win a maximum temperature.

This is the sort of thing ward and co could do to campaign for workers rights in extreme heat, rather than keep giving us extra duties to do in a an already choc a bloc day. Be more helpful than asking us do take peoples shopping round, which was once discussed.

It's not good to be on a walking duty in this heat with no shops nearby. You can easily run out of water near the end of your round or the water you do have left is now warm.

Already 30° inside and out here. One van has Aircon. 50 staff. Three of us stayed in because of underlying health issues everyone else sent out with tracked and 1st class. Some van shares 200 tracked. Our van share tracked passed onto a newbie has 180. Asked in front of whole office who had health problems. Not allowed back into office unless you feel ill. No sign of a risk assessment. No reference to Gov guidelines nor red alert for our area.

So when the red alert warning ends on Thursday night.....we go into work on Friday in 33 degree heat and gotta take out 3 days' worth of 2nd class.

My gaffer already told me he expects me to complete it all tomorrow because it's cooler

These last 3 days have been an absolute disgrace from Royal Mail! Sent out with everything...

Running out of water even though I brought plenty with me, no shops nearby, the remaining water I had later in the round had turned warm.

Luckily customers are nice enough to offer cold water and save us from dehydration....

The very least Royal Mail could have done is got someone to drive around handing out ice cold bottles of water to posties throughout the day.

How things appear to have changed for the worse since the extreme heatwave in July '22, our depot started the red warning shifts earlier and we did what we could until we felt unsafe/unwell. It was in excess of 35C at just gone 1130 and a vast majority of the OPGs returned to the depot for around 1200 before heading home.
