This is a generalisation but comparing National Companies ….
if you work on a building sites or (as I did) work on the highways, you are provided access to:
sun cream/protection
after sun cream
hand creams
free water
We are in the sun for 5-7 hours and the only provision for any of the above are small conical paper 65ml cups at 2 water “stations” shared by 450 staff in the office

It comes down to one thing - the CWU. Other unions would not accept the working conditions that postal workers have to put up with. This is the trade unionism you get when the union is indistinguishable from the industry.

i get your frustration with the union but this isn't their battle, it all comes down to the woke/sue them mentality, folk think they're doing right by some ginger haired kid latherining him with lotion, next there's an alergic reaction and said union gets sued

It absolutely is the CWU's fight. Work should never expose workers to dangerous conditions. Other unions do it and do it successfully. The stance should always be that PPE, such as suncream, should be the last resort after all other means are taken to eliminate the risks.

The WSWS nor the SEP are 'potential' unions. Thats not their purpose or indeed strategy. As for how long I've been around, well there's not a lot I haven't seen or done. I certainly know just how rotten the current version of trade unionism is.

RM should definitely have a better extreme weather protocol than the usual "take care out there" team brief.

Stating the obvious but we have to work in extreme heat, cold, wind, floods and it's only going to get worse due to the climate crisis.

And the CWU should absolutely be on the case.

surely everybody knows the weather and how to adapt accordingly regards clothing and fluids
and i'm pretty sure if you pop to certain shops that sun lotion is available cheap enough,
i posted earlier, RM used to supply it but got stopped due to H&S matters regarding alergic reactions
if anyone did start to feel unwell whilst out on delivery or wherever you work, you are not going to get into bother for seeking any help even if you cannot carry on

Some people have allergies - but a lot don’t !
In the 4 1/2 years I’ve been here as agency and contract, there’s not been 1 piece of information/advice given out for safety/dangers of working in the sun - even the sun protector on the new RM caps only come down to just below your ears so the back of your neck is exposed to the sun all day
But then again in that time we’ve never had a fire drill in our office - in fact I’ve never even heard the alarms tested

I have no wish to start an argument and I despise Kretinsky, Simon Thompson, Rickaay and all the other liars that have destroyed RM..... but they're not responsible for making sure staff are hydrated, protected from the sun etc.

They are responsible, in law the company has a duty of care to its employees. ‘The employer’ is responsible for providing whatever we need to work safely, our ‘personal responsibility’ is to use the resources provided, for the purpose it was intended .

The MHSWR 1999, made under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, places a duty on employers to assess the risks to the health and safety of employees and others affected by their work activities.

Key legal duties include:

Regulation 3: Requires every employer to make a "suitable and sufficient" assessment of the risks to employees and others.
Regulation 5: Requires employers to make appropriate health and safety arrangements based on the outcomes of the risk assessment.
Regulation 7: Requires the appointment of competent persons to assist in undertaking protective and preventive measures.
Regulation 10: Mandates employers to provide comprehensible and relevant information on risks and preventive measures.
