Dehydration
What do you all drink in the hot weather? Is plain water enough? Tablet or sachets of electrolyte added to it? Nice cup of hot tea lol?

Water.
The rest is expensive nonsense.

Re: Dehydration
More water than usual. Electrolyte sachet or two if you want. If not, then use a bit more salt than normal, sea salt being the best.
If the colour of your pee is a light yellow you are likely fine.

In really hot weather like in the southeast now and next week, can you cut off as you feel it's unsafe to continue? Would you be disciplined for that?

Re: Dehydration
As soon as I get up, I have half a pint of water with a good pinch of baja sea salt. A small amount of water with my breakfast half an hour later, then, as I’m on my walk, around two pints of water over a four hour period.

In theory, your life is in your own hands every day on delivery - Dynamic Risk Assessment. Don't wait for your manager to step in to save you from working yourself to death because the most you'll get is a briefing about remaining aware of the heat.moonjaguar wrote: ↑24 May 2026, 19:30In really hot weather like in the southeast now and next week, can you cut off as you feel it's unsafe to continue? Years ago one of my coworkers came back in complaining that it was raining too hard. He was told to get the 'fuck back out there' .

Re: Dehydration
Electrolyte imbalances are dangerous, and drinking lots of water while sweating away potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium at the other end actually makes it worse. If you experience headaches, spasms, palpitations, nausea, or numbness in hot weather, you might be suffering from an imbalance. Eating more often, and supplementing your fluid intake with some kind of electrolyte drink, is a good idea, instead of wedding yourself to some archaic philosophy by which water is enough. You can buy 4pks of electrolyte drinks for around £2 at most supermarkets. They’re exactly £2 at Morrisons.

So we can put paper mache through people's doors and then those people can phone up and complain for that same person to tell us posties off.

Re: Dehydration
Yes they are and very few people have them without an underlying cause.
Avoiding dehydration is essential.
Eating and drinking properly will almost certainly mean you won't have an electrolyte imbalance.
Buying "electrolyte" drinks, some of which don't contain electrolytes, is a waste of time and money.
Another pointless fad though I am sure electrolytemaxxing is all the rage.

Re: Dehydration
If anyone starts feeling dizzy - sick - develops a bad headache or suffers severe cramps then phone your manager and say your stopping in the shade until you feel well enough to head back to the office. Once there sit down rest and drink water till finish time.
DO NOT push yourself past this point as you will be suffering from heatstroke and will end up going sick the next day anyway.
