Re: A Few things to consider !
What's to stop royal mail doing that in 3 years anyways when they know the union that says it represents its members folds so easy we will say no to this deal and say no to self employment when it inevitably comes our way. Without our hardwork the company is nothing remember that there is no profits without workers

Just be prepared for the owner driver model in 3 years, union have made so many mistakes and been given run around by DK,Ricky etc…they had chance to put up fight when they got the 96% and should’ve called Company bluff, but decided to press the self preservation button and completely sell out the members…..at this point they know there’s nothing they can do to stop this race to bottom and gig economy is coming regardless.

Either way, are deliveries being sold down the river?

Every post from Martin Walsh on here and on Facebook these last couple of weeks comes across as scaremongering tactics from a deputy general secretary postal who is clearly out of his depth.

The weakest part of this is rurals helping out town walks.
Even if rurals have extra time, it won't be much. And that "help" will be spread across all town walks.
You'll end up with each town pairing losing about 3 houses off their route. Farcical.

If you had to guess typically how many trays of manual letters, flats and mech sat under walk frames each day (or do they even make it into the IPS frames)?

Tracked letters and flats have picked up a lot over the last 2-3 years. MCs (well at least they are supposed to, we do) send Tracked letters and flats between the outward and inward MCs and from the inward MCs to DOs in trays.

They get DPR in early to ram mail into double slots after you’ve gone out, next day you can’t get any more mail in your fitting. When you get out you are going forward one delivery point, back 3 delivery points.

Re: A Few things to consider !
This for me, along with the mess a Saturday will be make it a non starter.
There will be almost half the staff in to cover the whole office doing tracked and 1C letters and premium products.
This is where the real disparity between the workloads will be seen. Some staff sent out with 200 items to do over 2 routes, others 50-60 items. Not to mention the immediate up skilling involved for staff who have never had to work like this, things like HCT duties who would normally have a designated parcel support - theres no room for that now on a Saturday.

Interesting reading the comments. Nobody seems to be able to come up with any kind of alternative though?

I'd come up with an alternative if everyone paid me £4.50 a week for f***ing them over. Might not be a very good one, but it would be an alternative.hazzeem025 wrote: ↑17 May 2026, 11:13Interesting reading the comments. Nobody seems to be able to come up with any kind of alternative though?

Re: A Few things to consider !
I'm pretty sure one idea was to make the duties bigger with the expectation that you would only deliver half everything and half parcels+1c, rotating each half dailyhazzeem025 wrote: ↑17 May 2026, 11:13Interesting reading the comments. (so similar to the rural plan but with a full days work)
Making the duties a third bigger would presumably remove 1 out of every 4 so the same savings I think.
Assuming this was actually do-able in practice would it be a possible alternative ?
At least it would be an equal expectation from everyone.
Obviously Saturday would be something different as only 1c mail is supposed to be delivered along with the parcels.
Also obviously this would have to be done properly with sensible revisions and not simply make up stupidly massive duties with bits bolted on from other parts of the town etc like it is now
