Let's face it, the union are backed into a corner and they are trying to justify it. Royal Mail will always hold the cards.
This model isn't great and will always need to rely on full capacity of staff, when has that ever happened? There is always over 5% on sick, so when that happens to one of your group of 3 then what? Do you really think the line manager will magically find another person for you for that day/week/month? No, your 4 duties will start to collapse...and quickly!!!
The company/union is placing square objects in round holes with DM26 which is a glorified ODM and will seem to be fun when September comes around when pressure ramps up.

Once OFCOM agreed to the USO changes the RM were always going to drop daily 2c deliveries as soon as they could, DM26 does seem the best option available, even if we all know it's going to lead to chaos in moat DO's.

Over the last 18 months offices have reduced their manning to reflect their prediction on introducing ODM. Where I work, it went down from 95 to 61, with all absence and holiday cover removed, 10 rounds taken out and added to existing jobs.
If all offices have done the same, the savings have already been made so either ODM or DM26 will need additional staff. The union allowed these reductions, so agreeing to put half a dozen rounds back in and make 5 people full time is not enough.
If all new starters are being offered full time contracts, what about the current 30 hour contracts, there could be half an office not getting increased hours

I've not seen it suggested anywhere all new starters will get full time contracts, it's just any that are in the future will now get 37 hour contracts rather than 40 hour contracts.

i think most offices will going to the 2 saturdays of in 5 so 40% off staff not in every saturday . My question we have an office of 50 so roughly 30 working every saturday what about christmas loads of first class with cards and parcels what chance does any office have , has this been thought through ???

A 50 percent drop in morning sorters, but there will also be double/triple mail to throw in around if imagine a frame stuffed full of door to doors. Currently the single duties do f**k all sorting, will this change I wonder.

With just over half the staff in on a Saturday, the only work that needs to be done is sorting the parcels and putting them in order, then add to it your 1C letters. Very minimal sorting at a duty frame required, if at all, you could simply take your parcels out to van and place them in order there.

The bigger problem, for which I've not seen an answer to yet is how someone is supposed to deliver 2 duties worth of Saturday products from an HCT, particularly if it's far from the office.
