Try being a gardener - you could really grow your career

Re: Career path
Distribution, driving the mail to offices and forgetting about it , doesn't matter how busy it is you can only fit so much on the truck, have to take breaks by law and royal mail make you take more than you legally need. More money as wellpostmanplod2026 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026, 10:03why would u get stressed doing our job as a postman? emmm u clearly are on a canter of a walk and not a reserve that get hammered every day with treble mail and getting shoved on walks that havent been out in weeks, everybody is stressed as a postman ur clearly in denial, the figures show u no one wants to be a postman everyones leaving, i wonder what planet some people are on anyway ur probably on the wind up, distribution what kind of jobs in distribution are good ? any roles in mind?

Re: Career path
No I just have a finish time I work to everyday, like you do and I couldn’t care if I have 10 days mail or one day. It makes no difference to what time I finish at, the same way it shouldn’t make a difference to you. It’s your choice to put pressure on yourself by working on or for caring.postmanplod2026 wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026, 10:03why would u get stressed doing our job as a postman? emmm u clearly are on a canter of a walk and not a reserve that get hammered every day with treble mail and getting shoved on walks that havent been out in weeks, everybody is stressed as a postman ur clearly in denial, the figures show u no one wants to be a postman everyones leaving, i wonder what planet some people are on anyway ur probably on the wind up, distribution what kind of jobs in distribution are good ? any roles in mind?

Not everybody feels comfortable driving a small truck around all day/night.citypostie wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026, 14:26Distribution, driving the mail to offices and forgetting about it , doesn't matter how busy it is you can only fit so much on the truck, have to take breaks by law and royal mail make you take more than you legally need. Re: Career path
Then they don't apply to do it then, just pointing out that there are other jobs at royal mail and alot of them are better than deliveries, I did 30 years on delivery before moving onto distribution and believe me it's like working for a different company with how it is on deliveries nowTopperGas wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026, 17:36Not everybody feels comfortable driving a small truck around all day/night.citypostie wrote: ↑20 Mar 2026, 14:26Distribution, driving the mail to offices and forgetting about it , doesn't matter how busy it is you can only fit so much on the truck, have to take breaks by law and royal mail make you take more than you legally need. ‘Legacy wages after 3 years service’. Is this correct , not heard this before

Re: Career path
Yes, it was in the 2023 Agreement that pay progression to "legacy equivalent" was around 3 years but I'm sure Dave Ward mentioned 4 years in the committee hearing.
Whatever. It's a long time to stick around doing the same job as your colleagues on an inferior wage imho. And the key issue is this - even after 3 or 4 years, it wasn't always the true "legacy terms" - just something closer to legacy pay.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Career path
There is no career path in RM any more.
You would need to be criminally insane to even consider it.
Plumber, bricklayer, sparky are far better options with little or no qualifications.
Just NOT RM.

Re: Career path
Was there ever a career path in RM, as we've got posties who've done 40 years service doing exactly the same job as the rest of us with a few years service, the only career path seems to have been to train as a manager for the selected few who want to go down that route, or get a job as a collections driver if you are prepared to drive a small truck.
If you don't want to become a manager or drive a truck then you're basically stuck being a postie for your entire career, in the past the job seemed reasonably well paid now it's just above the minimum wage it just seems a stepping stone until you can get a better paid job elsewhere.

Re: Career path
That they do, but with a decent teacher, patience, common sense & a little intuition a school leaver could go far in my era.
I served my apprenticeship (4 yrs) & enjoyed it.
However if you are talking about today’s youngsters they seem to want it yesterday in today’s society.
Would you recommend RM as a potential employer to your own kids?
