Re: Cameras in vans
I understand peoples replies - but the fact is we’re just being marked as high risk and being taken off driving but given no benchmarks or expectations or how harsh steering at 5mph or harsh braking at 5mph avoidable

Re: Cameras in vans
One noticeable point of interest though with the new telematic scores
The electric vans are producing safety scores way way below the diesels.
I drive a EV I’m down in the 50%s
Diesel I’m back in the 90s
We believe the regenerative braking is showing up as driver braking

Re: Cameras in vans
I've been driving an EV with telematics for the last two weeks and using regenerative braking when I remember to switch it on, and so far I haven't had anything said to me about my driving. Union rep said that its normally just a conversation not conduct anyway. I haven't changed my driving style either. That screenshot of (RMs?) guidance on it posted further up this thread even states the telematics scores will be lower than the old trimble scores and shouldn't be considered a reflection of worse driving. Maybe your managers have not read or understood that bit.

I’ll try and make this clear
Yes they ARE disciplining us for harsh cornering BUT NOT telling us how it needs to be done
I am NOT looking at my performance - in fact it hasn’t even been viewable on my performance
A list is produced daily showing those who will be “spoken to” as they are high risk from previous day
And It is the union reps passing on the warnings for the company from these lists and telling us people have been sacked our position could be at risk if we don’t improve - BUT THEY HAVE NO DATA OR DRIVER RECORDS TO SHOW US - as they say they don’t have access to it
So it goes “you’re being taken off driving as you’re high risk due to harsh braking and cornering”
You ask where and to what extent
“Don’t know but it says You’re harsh braking and cornering multiple times at 5mph”
As an example, turning circles and 3 point turns are constant failures because the telemetrics reads it as accelerating steering and braking too much
Accelerating on a corner as it’s uphill gives a harsh cornering fault
You’re then given a 30 minute talk about GOAL HIT etc etc
But nothing about what you’re being marked down for
I’ve suggested that were shown what is being done wrong, how, where etc and specially educated about what is expected
And NO i dont use my phone whilst driving
And I DO wear my seat belt
I honestly don’t know why you are bothered? They can’t discipline you for ‘harsh cornering’. Stop looking at My Performance. It is irrelevant.
If you have a rep go and see them and get them to tell management that any driving tips they have can only be delivered in a positive coaching manner.
If your rep doesn’t exist, contact your Area Rep.
However, on not wearing a seatbelt or mobile phone use whilst driving, take the warning and stop doing it.
They can’t use vehicle telemetry to discipline you or sanction you via conduct stages.
There are agreements with the CWU that they have to abide by.
If your place of work is using the info as some sort of ritual telling off process and the rep is going along with it, they are wrong.
Contact your divisional rep and tell them what is going on.

I can just see them accepting that as a reasonable excuse!

Some of our illustrious Senior leaders are now Institute of Couriers Senior Fellows. Makes you proud.Barnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026, 22:28
Driving 50yards without a seatbelt is illegal unless you are a courier driver. We are not defined as couriers. Also, people are fastening their seatbelt into the slot and then not wearing it for their entire duty. That is breaking the law on multiple occasions.
It’s company policy to wear a seatbelt. So if someone has received a warning for not wearing their seatbelt, they deserved it.
Royal Mail is celebrating a major milestone this year as four of its senior leaders—Ricky McAulay, UK Operations Director; Nick Dunn, National Distribution & Fleet Director; Kate Seals, Regional Operations Director; and Rashid Choudhary, Lead Plant Manager—have been awarded the prestigious title of Senior Fellow by the Institute of Couriers (IoC).

If you want to test how long you keep your job, simply continue to drive without wearing a seatbelt. That’s the sure fire way to find out whether you should clunk click on every trip.yellowbelly wrote: ↑08 Mar 2026, 12:12Barnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026, 22:28

It’s like formula one, you have to brake hard to charge the battery, allowing you to accelerate faster out of the cornersAgencyoap wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026, 22:55One noticeable point of interest though with the new telematic scores

Re: Cameras in vans
A few posties have shown concern they find the cameras distracting when driving, our line manager saying it’s okay to cover them up with 739 card.
