Swathes of objections have been lodged against the delivery company's proposals to solve parking issues at its site in Skyliner Way, Bury St Edmunds, which would see the number of spaces for staff reduced.
The rigmarole has prompted the town council, ward district councillor for the area Rowena Lindberg and Moreton Hall and Eastgate Residents' Association hit out at the plans.
People living nearby believe the issue will not be resolved if Royal Mail's proposals are given the green light.
"The parking issue that has been forced upon the local residents shows no sign of being resolved with this application," said one man objecting to the changes.
"This situation cannot be allowed to go on. Suitable staff parking needs to be made available, even if that means relocating to a more appropriate site."
Another said: "Primack Road has been converted to a one-way street, making it impossible for service vehicles, buses and even cars getting through."
One resident also feared the parking problem could be "exacerbated" if the plans are given the green light.
Outlining its proposals to West Suffolk Council last month, Royal Mail's plan to address issues at its site appear to suggest there would be a loss of 36 staff spaces.
However, it said in a statement that losing spots for staff is "offset by an overall increase in total parking provision."
It added that "revised operational needs" has prompted the change.
Rowena Lindberg, one of three councillors representing Moreton Hall ward at West Suffolk Council, said: "Residents in the nearby area are already experiencing pressure on on-street parking, particularly during peak operational hours for the delivery office.
"Any further increase in overspill parking would be detrimental to residential amenity, creating congestion, obstructing visibility, and reducing the availability of parking for households."
How has this happened?
Resolutions to the parking saga have been sought after Royal Mail was served with a breach of condition notice in November.
It was alleged fleet and commercial vehicles were being parked in an area designated for private car parking use.
Andy McGowan, vice chair of the Moreton Hall and Eastgate Residents' Association, said the issues have been going on since the summer of 2024.
However, he believes it was last autumn when problems started to increase.
"Residents have had to put up with impact of Royal Mail’s actions. For us it is concerning that Royal Mail does not recognise its role in the Moreton Hall community. I think the proposals risk having a huge impact," added Mr McGowan.
