Royal Mail statement as Shaw residents slam post delays

Royal Mail has released a statement after residents in Shaw have hit out at their post arriving 'a month after being sent'.

Dozens of reports were shared by Shaw residents in two separate social media pages.

The first post, on I Love Shaw, asked where the post was and what the issue was.

While no definitive answers were shared, more than 100 comments saw dozens of residents also say that their post was delayed.

One woman commented on December 12 and said she received nine letters and cards on the same day, with one sent from Salford Royal Hospital dated November 13.

Royal Mail has said that it is 'focused' on delivering an efficient service.

Another woman, who said she lives in Milnrow, said she went two weeks without any post.

The other post, made on the second group on Friday (December 12), said: "It has finally arrived.

"After my complaint and postage problems over the previous weeks, I rang for an update this morning to Royal Mail.

"I spoke with a lady and she said a response had been made to my case reference that they ‘had 4 items for that address and would get to it when they could’.

"So, my idea was to get home, check for mail, grab proof of address in a utility bill and head to the sorting office with ID in hand to pick up my own post (yes, I was that desperate due to having no access to money and kids to feed).

"Anyhow, I’ve got home to find my 'four' items behind the door."

The post included a picture of nine letters which had reportedly been delivered at the same time.

This post also received multiple comments stating that others had seen the same issue with delays in their post arriving.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We know how important letters and parcels are in the run-up to Christmas, and while this is a very busy period, the vast majority are continuing to be delivered on time.

"Where a route is affected, our teams work to resolve any delays as quickly as possible.

“Last year, 99% of items posted by the last recommended posting dates were delivered in time for Christmas, and our teams are focused on maintaining that level of service again this year.”

Been told recently Oldham is the 2nd worst DO in UK (Shaw is OL2). One day last week, 7000+ items failed across Oldham's postcodes .

In February, they moved Ashton & Stalybridge into Oldham's DO. Oldham already had another massive spare building which used to be a mechanics which they were supposed to move into, but to save money as the building had been left to rot, they knocked it down, built a car-park, and have squeezed Ashton & Staly into the same building as Oldham. It resembles a battery-farm in the morning.

For the last 3 weeks there's been hundreds of yorks in the main building, 150+ in an outside canopy (which they put on the bay taking up 2 unloading spots for wagons), and 100s all over the back of the bay.

It's a total s**t-show. And the managers act surprised when everybody says NO to overtime.
