Reader letter: Young people used to work for Royal Mail pre Christmas

SIR - It seems strange that Royal Mail has started advertising on television in the run up to Christmas.

They give no indication of their First and Second class services, which is just as well as for the last few weeks their service here in BD17 seems to be down to once a week.

I mentioned this in my local Post Office to be told that this is usual in the period before Christmas. I recall years ago in my youth joining the ranks of young people working in that pre Christmas period delivering the mail. It was a step up from my previous paper round job I did also whilst at school.

It's the Post Office that are advertising on tv, not Royal Mail Mr. Leahy.

Agency are taken on to deliver the packets instead of the letters.
And we also spend all day delivering the packets instead of the letters.
And there are yet more packets not going out just like all the letters.
And there will be packets coming back undelivered when agency are out of time.

Perhaps remind everyone that Christmas isn't supposed to be a carnival of consumerism and I'll gladly deliver the letters like I signed up to do.
The machine stops.

No it’s not - there’s been a few ads on the last few weeks
