COMPLAINTS about 'serious delays' to post, including important hospital letters may be more widespread than first thought as people share their experiences.
Cllr Sarah Murray raised concerns about delays to the post in Warndon Villages (WR4) in Worcester, urging people to write to MP Tom Collins about the issue.
However, readers have come forward and raised concerns about delays to post in other parts of the city and county, including St Peter's (WR5) in Worcester and Upton-upon-Severn (WR8), as some raise concerns about whether Christmas cards will arrive on time.
The Royal Mail say the vast majority of post still arrives on time and that 'resourcing issues' has now been resolved.
Cllr Murray, a Liberal Democrat city councillor for St Nicholas ward in Warndon Villages, raised the alarm after she was contacted by several residents over delays to important letters, including correspondence about hospital appointments, test results and financial documents.
John Renshaw, chairman of St Peter's Parish Council, wrote on the Worcester News Facebook page: "It's the same in St Peter's. No post arrives for days, then it all arrives at once. Some items were posted a week or more beforehand."
Angela Church wrote: "I sent my niece a card and it took 11 days to get from Worcester sorting office to Upton."
Daphne Edgell wrote: "I understand there is a shortage of workers at Worcester, so goodness knows what it will be like when Christmas cards start being sent."
One reader received a letter about a medical procedure she needed, six weeks after the procedure was performed.
Brenda Cherrett wrote: "Thank goodness for the NHS app as letters always arrive too late."
Jane Bagley said the issue of delays was 'the same around Battenhall and Bath Road, and it's been like it for months'.
Tina Randall added: "Same with WR3."
Steve Thackeray wrote: "The same in Upton-upon-Severn. Had no post for over a week then on Monday we had 10 letters."
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Our teams continue to work hard to deliver a reliable and consistent service in Warndon Villages and across WR4. In areas like Upton and St Peters, recent resourcing issues meant some routes weren’t fully completed, but this has now been resolved and all mail is being delivered.
“We want to reassure residents that the vast majority of mail continues to arrive on time, and where an item is delayed we prioritise it to keep any delay to a minimum. We apologise for any instances where this has happened. We remain fully committed to delivering six days a week, delivering to homes whenever there is mail to deliver.”
