Very much a done deal. There will be NO action over pensions. The battle was well and truly over when the majority of those that voted, chose to accept the changes to conditions. No only that, those offices that kicked up the greatest amount of dust are now in the firing line for extinction.

I think it is quite ironic that the Government are quite happy to pour Â£50 billion+ into a privately own buisseness like Northan Rock..
But wont put Â£3.5 billion into a company it OWNS!!!!!

The collapse of NR would have had long-lasting and serious implications on the financial sector as well as individuals, whereas RM wouldn't - relatively speaking.

Depends how you look at it it does however have an impact on 180,000 + staff who work for royal fail an if the pension robbers get away with it could have a big impact on our future prospects when due to retire when i joined it was the final salary so iv'e been miss sold my pension wonder if i could take legal action against royal fail? ... but in my book it has to be stoped !! as for northern rock well that has no impact whatsoever on my life and i dare say quite a few of r.m's 'people' but i dare say big al and crazier have some of there millions tucked up there ?

I think the key thing is that the money for Northern Rock is a loan and the government will get it's money back. (eventually........)

It wouldn't get anything back from us on pensions.

I have not read any pension propaganda yet. So I felt if there is so many unhappy people about it, and not read anything about being happy with the deal. It must be a bad deal. So I am sticking with that.

It has already got it's money were do you think the pension fund holiday that RM took went? it certainly wasn't used to improve the business, all you heard RM say during the recent dispute is that the business needs to invest in new machinery, if it had used the money it had not payed in the pension fund, it might have the machinery already, as for the money that the government have given RM to plug the pension hole and pay for new machinery that is a loan, they well get it back, be in no doubt that our pension scheme(POSSS) has been robbed blind in the past and anyone who has a different opinion please post and prove me wrong

How do you know the money not paid in during the pensions holiday wasn't used for something "worthwhile"?
It may well have been used for new "machinery" at that time. There were NP4000s, OCR V2s and V3s, plus CFCs being installed at that time, and 1000 + new machines at between Â£300,000 and Â£650,000 a throw, plus ancillary equipment, is not small change.
Also, "robbed blind" intimates something done against someone's will, but both the pension trustees and RM agreed to the holiday. You may feel it was wrong in hindsight, but hardly robbery on any level.

Ah , so thats where Â£650,000,000 of our deferred wages went. That just leaves Â£3 billion to track down.

Seeing as the pension board of trustees is made up from a cross-section including CWU officials and existing pensioners, and the holiday was agreed by all, that's hardly likely, is it?
