Residents complain of postal problems leading to missed NHS appointments and fines

Residents in a West Cumbrian town claim they have missed crucial NHS appointments due to delays in receiving their post.

Charlotte Stainton from Egremont has Huntington's disease and claims that some of her post has been delayed by up to three weeks.

Charlotte says that the delay is an added stress that she doesn't need.

Speaking to ITV Border, she said: "I need them appointments but I have missed quite a few because they are coming a couple, maybe up to three weeks late."

Royal Mail say that first class mail should be delivered the next working day and more than 75% of mail is delivered in that time frame. It also says that second class mail should arrive in three working days and that it does more than 90% of the time.

For Malcolm Mounsey, building rally cars is his pride and joy. His latest project is off the road, so he cancelled the insurance.

Vehicles over 40 years old are tax-free — but he still had to SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) it with the DVLA. They sent him a final reminder in the post.

Malcolm, said: “I didn’t get the mail, it was late by up to two weeks due to the problems we have been having in Egremont. Consequently I am going to have to pay a penalty."

In a statement Royal Mail apologised for the delays, saying that they are currently trying to recruit more staff in the region.

Royal Mail said: "We are sorry for the difficulties some customers in Egremont have experienced. We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly in a rural community.

"We are rotating deliveries so that most addresses receive mail every other day, with some taking slightly longer. We want to reassure customers that no homes are experiencing delays of weeks"

The NHS are still using a Dsa service, if only they switched their post over to 2nd class.
