btw are DOs killing off mail for schools and colleges where they're shut? Seen a good few items for schools and colleges that have been killed off as inaccessible.

The pupils may not be there but they're not actually shut for the full 6 weeks, if there's access and a letterbox they get a delivery, our manager checked with all the schools in our area before the holidays began to find out if there would be access, none of them were totally shut they all either had access or someone would be there periodically either cleaning or carrying out maintenance repairs etc.

I think it was about 10(?) years ago when it started. If you do not get a hold on your mail it gets sent back. I seem to remember that other businesses objected to them getting a free service.

I think it was about 10(?) years ago when it started. If you do not get a hold on your mail it gets sent back. I seem to remember that other businesses objected to them getting a free service.

I definitely recall after privatisation it became management's cause celebre the first week of the school holidays. Some people just didn't bother attempting it for the six weeks by which point there'd be an entire tray of live mail sitting at the frame without a Keepsafe instruction or any endorsements.

Usually the janitor is still around so you might as well take the two letters the school has that day. After all, what's the rush? We don't finish two hours early in July anymore.

I think most posties who have schools on a walk retain a moral obligation to serve a community organisation and so keep mail in or below the frame in a box for the six weeks and deliver when they reopen. Otherwise RTS as inaccessible if you don't give two hoots!

I did like how they didn't mention that Redirection is now Second Class, not first class - so all items that go via Redirection are now on Second Class delivery times not First Class.

Some are 1C, some are 2C, you need to check what is printed on the label.

Older ones are 1c, since June any new ones (and any new printed labels) are 2c - once the old ones run out it'll all be 2c.

Over the last week or so I've noticed that there has been a change in the "kill off" stickers with a new option "Stop and return" added, what's that used for?

They're supposed to have been killing off the school mail if they don't have a Keepsafe for years - i'd guess there's another big push on it for the COMs as it's the summer holidays.
