It was never easy. The point I'm making is we used to do full bags of households back in the day and it was bad.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 16:59That's easy, do 2 columns or a column and a half per day.SkiSunday wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 16:05We used to do a row per day of D2Ds when we were on single walks. Some full bags Mon to Thurs, then Friday and Saturday were easier days towards the short weekend break we had.
It made sense then, now it doesn't because a row is now a column apparently and I see plenty of frames with 7 columns...

Re: Vertical frames
I was solving your non issue of prepping a column instead of a row, what do you mean by you did full bags of households back in the day ? When I started back in the day the maximum was 3 per week we still get plenty at our office and if there's only 1 there's still more per week than having 3 back in the day.SkiSunday wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 17:02It was never easy. Re: Vertical frames
The idea was (and maybe still is) that all door to doors would be prepped in by close of play on Tuesday at the latest (yes, that would almost certainly mean that Mondays and Tuesdays might need to be rebalanced time-wise, and it would also probably mean that offices would need to set aside dedicated time for door to door preparation).
I suspect that was the 'solution' to the huge problem that door to doors present for alternate day delivery.
Please note I'm not suggesting this is sensible or workable. It might be if there was a sea change in the attitude to door to doors right across the company in both mail centres (they'd need to be in delivery offices by the Saturday morning before without fail), and in delivery offices (managers would have to stop treating door to doors like fifth class mail when things get busy). But I think those things are unlikely to happen.

Re: Vertical frames
Processing don't touch them, they probably arrive at the MC on direct yorks and will be wheeled to the bay for the run to the DO Distribution would only hold them if there wasn't enough space on the lorry, don't know how many yorks a 17 tonner can hold but the 600s can only hold 12 yorks. Alternatively they aren't arriving at the MC early enough from wherever they sent from upstream of us.DGH wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 17:25The idea was (and maybe still is) that all door to doors would be prepped in by close of play on Tuesday at the latest (yes, that would almost certainly mean that Mondays and Tuesdays might need to be rebalanced time-wise, and it would also probably mean that offices would need to set aside dedicated time for door to door preparation).

Re: Vertical frames
"Back in the day" we used to prep and deliver D2Ds by the row. If you have full RM2000 frames at your DO with 5 rows then you are genuinely f****d.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 17:21I was solving your non issue of prepping a column instead of a row, what do you mean by you did full bags of households back in the day ? Re: Vertical frames
The WPC frames have been changed to vertical, and that seems to have consisted of nothing beyond moving the label strips. In which case, what's to stop me putting things back when I walk in one day to find this has happened to my frame?
The machine stops.

Sure. But wherever they come from, they're going to have to be in DOs on Saturday mornings. Which is not always the case now.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025, 17:37
