I read on this sight that posters did not want a pay deal linked change.

It isn’t really a carrot dangler this time though. The reality is the job is changing regardless, and people are struggling financially, so any increase in pay at this point is going to be voted for by the majority. You might be right in that it is closer this time, but I see no alternative strategy if it is a no as I certainly will not go on strike for a pay deal this time round.

I have voted No today. Out of principle and to have my voice heard. Note -TBF voting was very simple and quick.

This was our real chance / opportunity to get something meaningful from this “new start” new owner, rebuilding Royal Mail negotiating deal.

Daniel has only owned the business a few months and it’s on target to be in the black!

The Debt component of the deal (IDS, EP) is approximately £1.7 billion. (Source Grok). It is unknown how much personal debt Danny boy is in for.

I forget how many millions it would cost (200 something?) to equalise new contracts this year, but my feeling and brain tells me that Danny boy along with his investors could have scraped that money together to end the recruitment problem and bury this ongoing issue and truly start fresh.
This is not the only reason, but if you are going to talk big, then you better deliver big, not deliver another measly generic pay rise.

So in summary, what with me being a militant pain in the ass, actions/ gestures matter to me and both the company and CWU has blown it.

If they really had any intention of equalising contracts, they would have ceased employing people on the new style contract. The CWU should be arguing to halt recruitment on that contract, otherwise equalisation chit chat will go nowhere.

It's not really costing RM £200m p.a. extra what it has done is saved them £200m p.a. for the last couple of years whilst they've clearly under paid new starters, the low retention rate of new starters must be costing them £m's or they wouldn't now even be considering equalisation.

I wonder if early voting shows a potential "No" vote RM will then brung a few £100's more our way to try and get a "Yes" vote over the line?

This is actually a very good idea. It would definitely improve new starter retention if they knew they would be made up after a few months.

Voted Yes to the deal, key thing is the deal is unconditional and 3 years with 4.2% and inflation 2% a ropener clause on the last two years.

In my opinion that’s how it should be and how I thought it worked when I came into the company 8 months ago.

Equalisation after a period of time seems fair, possibly even attached to performance (as long as it’s fair) so if you pass a 12 month probation then you get equalisation, if you need an extra 6 months then so be it etc… obviously this would most likely lead to managers finding any small issue to extend probations and it would need to be kept an eye on by the union.
