Two villages in East Cambridgeshire came together to throw a retirement party for their beloved postman.
Postie Dave Lyon served the villages of Aldreth and Haddenham for 25 years.
The postman was a familiar face in his red jacket and "wasn't just the village's postman, he was its heartbeat" say locals.
He would go above and beyond for his customers, delivering warm words and handwritten notes as well as parcels.
Upon his retirement, the village arranged a surprise party for Dave.
Flyers were distributed, and a Facebook retirement party was organised.
On the big day, Dave was lured to the village hall where he was met by "a room packed with familiar faces and some red bunting."
The "smile beamed across his face when he was handed a cheque for £1,000 raised by the people he had served for a quarter of a century."
The party was a testament to the love and gratitude the village had for Dave, who was described as "never just a postman—you were family."
He was appreciated by both villagers and their furry friends.
