Wouldnt worry too much, it will not be to far into future when the government will be informing us of our pay rise. (Minimum wage). No need for a union negotiating team then. Or ballot. :wave

What's the ratio of old contract v new contract working at RM now?
Could be as low as 3:1 depending on the office. 4:1 nationally based on 81,000 on delivery last December and 20,000 on the new contracts as of this June.
The machine stops.

It was,nt the 1st offer.
Oh, pray tell what the other offers were?

Regardless, It's the first offer that has been put to me and I reject it. Its not enough. We are £3k poorer due to the last batch of pay rises being completely outmatched by inflation. Not only that, that last pay deal we had to surrender our sick pay as well.
And break the area reps trust .your choice to reject nobody is twisting your arm.at the end of day its a simple yes or no.well the cwu have said it will be improved by sept lets wait an see.

72,000 CWU members last year.

"In his [November 2024] speech, Mr Walsh also warned that union membership in the Royal Mail had fallen to 83 per cent, with 21,000 workers not in the CWU."

CWU No.2 showing some guts and recommends NO vote..
At a committee meeting dated 14 July 2025 Scotland No 2 Branch voted against recommending the Negotiators Agreement reached on 29 June 2025. While we appreciate that the financial aspect of this agreement is what has been expected for some time given the current state of the business, we were disappointed that there were no steps towards harmonisation of our colleagues on the inferior terms and conditions imposed by Royal Mail during the last dispute. As a Branch we feel that our strength lies in our unity and collectivity and this is harmed by having a two-tier work force.
We are well aware that there are stages leading to harmonisation within the EP
Agreement reached in December 2024 but feel that the spirit of this Agreement is not being met, at present, by Royal Mail with the continuation of preparations being made for USO Reform when promises are being made by EP Group that deployment will be put on hold until all issues highlighted in the Pilot Sites have been remedied and full agreement reached. This is clearly not the case in the field with members being asked to pick duty patterns, preparation work taking place and being told the change is coming in regardless. It is unclear how a future ballot on a USO Reform agreement can be effective when changes are already being put in place.
We have not made this decision lightly but are deeply concerned by the apparent disconnect between EP Group and Royal Mail and would, therefore, be more confident moving forward if detailed steps and timescales for harmonisation and a more positive working relationship with Royal Mail around any USO Reform were in place, reassuring us of the sincerity of the commitments made in the EP Agreement, before voting Yes on any agreement.
Ultimately, it is the membership who will decide, as always, but the most important thing is that you use your vote.
Is there an LTB version of this?
I wouldn't have thought so, it's a branch making its own recommendation - which I would imagine has caused some people to splutter on their coffee and hobnobs in CWU HQ......

While I agree with the sentiment of their statement, no union member will strike to ensure terms for new starters and lose money in the process. There is no appetite for strikes period, so I don’t see the point of a no vote in this ballot. Change is coming regardless.

You don't need to strike to enact industrial action. The CWU has always said enacting an overtime ban, strict adherence to methods and following ones contract to the letter of the law would be IA thus would need balloting for. That means no training agency when you arent paid as a coach, no interacting with the company on any change activity. Of course a no vote doesnt need to mean any of that. It means get back in and try again and then if that fails we can think about the above.

Just doing the above would harm RM and RM can't change anything without its staff. The planners and management are useless and have been winging it for decades now. I don't really count a manager coming up to you once a day and telling you to "get the tracked out" as leadership.

Il be voting no as its a dog s**t pay rise given the extreme drop in our purchasing power over the last 3 years coupled with the change to our jobs past and future.

I’ve heard about proposals to freeze OT and do all the other things you mention for as long as I’ve been in this job and it never happens. It’s always strikes. Might have happened at a local level but not nationally. I agree though it should definitely be an option.

I honestly don't know why the CWU didn't consider a "work to rule ballot" last time round as they knew it was going to be a long dispute and during the cost of living crisis, posties needed some money and RM had plenty of cash reserves - they even boasted about having a strike fund.

The all-or-nothing strike ballots simply hit us in the pocket and burned the goodwill with the public who thought that we were striking for a pay increase. Unite (the managers union) showed that it can work in 2022. RM runs on the goodwill and the over-extension of its staff; withdraw that and temporarily the cracks instantly show because the last thing they want to do is employ more staff that adds to their overall costs in the long run.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
