There's currently a bill going through parliament, which if passed will make it easier for defined benefit schemes to release surplus funds to the sponsoring employer.

Nothing is likely to happen to the RMPP surplus until that law goes through. Then at some point afterwards it's up to the trustees of the scheme with the help of the actuary to decide if, when and how much money is released.

The RM has previously agreed with the CWU that any surplus cash that's released could be distributed between the company and current employees.
Although personally, I think it's RMPP members alone that should be getting the benefit.

If this happens - ALL that money should go to employees of that pension scheme only (only those that paid into that scheme)

Not a single penny to RM

Anything otherwise is a disgrace and legalised theft as far as i am concerned

Reeves wants companies to get hold of the surplus to jnvest in the business and in theory grow the economy. In a roundabout way its similar to the disastrous Thatcher holiday pension breaks . The idea that posties will reap large payouts is not going to happen In Spite of the trustees having a say . As ever crumbs will be fed to the workers . Technically Royal Mail have paid into the pension. Scheme so they could argue they are entitled to a share.

Hope not.......should be all those in the scheme. I worked for RM for 37 years and left in April. If it's going to be distributed it should be to those that have contributed.

Only those that paid into it should receive the benefit from it.
