We get about £5.05 a week extra then for a full time old contract? Am I in the ball park there?
£3.10 a day for me, minus tax etc, so even less than that.. totally crap for new contracts, 52p an hour extra is a slap in the face for the ammount of work we do

Yeah its not the best is it. But if its any consolation new contracts who have been with the business for a year or more are going to likely get an additional rise after September when the equalisation process starts

Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth Agreement
Pay deal
April 2022 -2% (£1 - £1.02)
April 2023 - 6% (£1.02 - £1.08)
April 2024 - 2% (£1.10)
Total - 10% (£0.10)

April 2024 - 2.3% (£1.18 - £1.21)
Total - 20% (£0.21)
https://tradingeconomics.com/united-kin ... lation-cpi

we are 11p on the pound worse off.

Proposed pay deal

April 2025 - 4.2% (£1.00 - £1.04)
April 2026 - 2% (£1.042 - £1.06)
April 2027 - 2% (£1.063 - £1.08)
Total - 8.2% (£0.08)

Inflation figures 25-27

April 2025 - 3.5% (£1.00 - £1.04)

April 2027 - 2%* (£1.06 - £1.08)
Total - 7.5%
https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/the-e ... ation/#CPI
*Projection and rounded figures

No better or worse off.

-------

Ignoring supplements and deductions.
April 2020 £12.38ph Basic. £458.06 a week.
If pay were to have matched inflation it would have been £14.98ph. £554.25 a week April 2024.
It actually is £13.65. £505.13 a week.
Thats £49.12 per week worse off.

That doesn't include 2025 inflation of 3.5%

If it matched inflation of 3.5% the wage would be £15.50. £573.66 a week.
The 4.2% pay rise would bring our wage up to £14.22ph. £526.26.

So, from 2022 to 2025 including the 4.2% pay rise we are £47.40 per week poorer on our hour hourly wage. £2,464.80 a year! Its actually worse than that as well because all of this excludes the percentage increases in our delivery supplements etc as well.

Updated to include delivery supplement

Delivery supplement

April 2022 - £26.61. Actual.

April 2025 - £29.35. Actual.

Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth Agreement

2022 - 2% (£26.61 - £27.14)
2023 - 6% (£27.14 - £28.77)
2024 - 2% (£28.77 - £29.35
2025 - 4.2% (£29.35 - £30.58)

Real inflation

2022 - 9% (£26.61 - £29.00)
2023 - 8.7% (£29.00 - £31.52)
2024 - 2.3% (£31.52 - £32.24)
2025 - 3.5% (£32.24 - £33.37)

Actual 2025 pay including delivery supplement including 4.2%. £526.26 + £30.58 = £556.84 per week. £28,955.68 per year.

Pay including supplement if matched by inflation £573.66 + £33.37 = £607.03 per week. £31,565.56 per year

£2,609.88 worse off

Reading above. So older staff get paid more per hour than newer starters??

I assumed they get extra through the supplement, and they get paid breaks. But actually on a higher hourly rate??

Been with royal mail for around a year. The fact we do exactly the same job, the same prep, the same walks as the older posties but don't get paid the same is really irking. 32 hour contact but doing the same as the 35 hour guys. It makes quite a difference when you think about it, especially if they are on a higher per hour rate 😡

Yes you are correct our hourly rate is more than new starters but our overtime rate is much worse
Currently 25 pence per hour less than standard rate for first 10 hours overtime and after 10 hours this is even less, think it’s around 70pence less per hour, I don’t do much if any overtime so can’t be sure of the exact after 10 hours rate
New starters are on 1.25 after 40 hours

And new starters quickly learn in our DO that their overtime dries up at 37--39 hours as RM "can't afford it as we pay so much SA."

Equalising New Entrants Terms and Conditions

In line with the EP/CWU agreement of the 18th December 2024, both parties have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring there is a full agreement in place on the pathway to equalising new entrants’ terms and conditions. We have also been clear that any agreement on this must take into account the time that new entrants have already spent in employment with Royal Mail.
So, am I understanding this right, nothing has actually been set in stone for our 'newer' colleagues (some of whom have been with us a decent amount of time now and the ones I know put good shifts in - hope that doesn't come across as patronising) and we're supposed to vote this agreement through?

Also
We could not have stronger words on this in our agreement as both parties confirmed their “absolute commitment” to equalisation.

We will agree the first step by September 2025.
We will agree the full plan by December 2025.
Ahead of these negotiations, it is vital that all new entrants join the CWU to further increase our bargaining power as we seek to deliver the most effective and speedy route to equalisation.
Will our 'new' colleagues be tempted?

I don't like years 2 and 3.
CPI, not RPI for starters (worth an extra 0.6%). We don't know what the National Minimum Wage will be next year or the year after. If the legacy hourly wage is 15% above the NMW (for example), years 2 and 3 should read RPI or 15% above minimum wage, whichever is greater. We should be bearing in mind that over the years we could potentially be signing up to a formula that gets us ever closer to the NMW. At the very least we should be maintaining the difference, if not getting more.

Also, the new entrant's Ts and Cs. Are they seriously thinking we are going to wait yet again..... jam in September, or maybe December, but not today guys n girls.

And what the hell is Section 6 about???????
"6. New Resourcing Model : EP Group / Royal Mail Group reaffirm their absolute commitment to the equalisation of new entrants pay, terms and conditions through the introduction of a new career path in incremental steps, alongside ensuring the necessary flexibility to grow the business. In line with the timescales previously agreed, we will agree the first step in the equalisation pathway in September 2025 with the full plan being agreed by no later than in December 2025."
So, pathway "1st step" is in September, with agreement in December. Anyone care to say what that means????? Everyone notice there's still no mention of dates of implementation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is a "new career path in incremental steps" ? WTF. Say it in plain English. The only reason they'd be so opaque, is coz it's a bag of sh!te. They're going to re-label things, so new entrants become junior post people, mid entrants, a stepping stone to "senior post person" on the legacy wage. The CWU have agreed to, and want us to go along with a formalisation of the 2 tier workforce that they agreed shouldn't have happened. They have sold out on the new entrants again..... surprise #not#

New entrants get moved from frame to frame with the added stress and instability that brings.
New entrants get last dibs on offers of a fulltime contract.
New entrants get paid less for doing the more stressful frames.
New entrants aren't told all the rules, and suffer as a result.
New entrants don't get to chose which frame they sign up to.
New entrants lose out on all sorts opportunities due to the "closed club" culture that exists.

And the union know full well, that if the old timers are looked after, no-one will strike on behalf of the new-comers.
The union needs to have new leadership, a leadership that will give the new entrants a space where we can have our dignity back.

We waited all this time for this :Applause

It's getting an emphatic "NO" from me.

57p an hour more.
£21.09 a week more.
£1,096 a year more.

That's for a 37 hour contract.

That 57p quickly becomes roughly 30p when you pay your tax, ni, pension contribution.

Any pay rise will be taxed to shreds so if your council tax has gone up say 5% and we get a 4.2% rise after tax more like 3% there’s a shortfall to find. Groceries have shot up over the past few years so even after this little raise we’ll be feeling it.
