Oxfordshire postman thanked as he retires after 41 years

A postman has said he will "miss the comradery of the other posties" as he retires after 41 years at the Post Office.

Bladon residents gathered at The White House pub to give David Hogg a surprise send-off.

Mr Hogg said: "I was only doing my job and loved working in Bladon as the residents were so friendly and helpful.

"I’ll miss the comradery of the other posties but will look forward to having a lie in.

"The event tonight was a real surprise and I’m grateful to all of Bladon for showing such affection towards me. I’m sure I’ll meet up with the locals in the future."

Bladon resident Helen Renfrew presented Mr Hogg with a cheque for £1,224 raised by villagers.

She said: "Dave, the postman, otherwise known as Dave double-decks, felt the love of the village he served for 41 years as their loyal postie.

"Always going the extra mile and ready with a smile and a quick chat on his travels, his local knowledge was legendary.

"We were lucky to have him; he will be sorely missed. Thank you, Dave."

Bladon resident Carolyn Hudspeth organised the card, collection, and event.

She said: "I wanted to show to David how much he means to everybody in Bladon. We’ll miss him and he’ll be a difficult act to follow".
