50,000 vehicle fleet, £100 per camera = £10million for both cameras in each vehicle.

I think, but don't quote me, it hooks into the OBD port - so it's pulling speed, engine rpm, instantaneous fuel consumption, etc. If not attached to the port in the footwell (since a driver could intentionally or unintentionally detach it) then wherever else the signals from the engine control unit are accessible.
The machine stops.

Re: Cameras in vans
Nah I'm sure it's a standalone unit that records acceleration/deceleration, cornering plus it's got GPS tracking so knows your location and tracks whether you're moving or not and tracks speed limits etc.Mr Rush wrote: ↑24 May 2025, 17:11I think, but don't quote me, it hooks into the OBD port - so it's pulling speed, engine rpm, instantaneous fuel consumption, etc. If not attached to the port in the footwell (since a driver could intentionally or unintentionally detach it) then wherever else the signals from the engine control unit are accessible.

Re: Cameras in vans
I’d welcome cameras on the van, even an outward-facing dashcam, but I’d feel a bit creeped out if I had a camera in the van cab filming me.

Re: Cameras in vans
We'd have to give a genuine reason as RM aren't a Government dept so Freedom to info. requests won't apply?

What's a canteen?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 May 2025, 20:32If there's CCTV in your canteen then chances are it's also recording audioMr Rush wrote: ↑23 May 2025, 20:05If they bring this in then I believe that renders taking your break out on delivery in your van completely unacceptable. Back to the unit and into the canteen where we will conduct private conversations away from the employer's live microphone.
Do you remember when depictions of the future as envisioned in the 60s were full of optimism? This is our glittering dystopia.

Indeed. I did an SAR last year when the managers started filming us on their phones while we were in the yard without getting our prior, explicit consent. It soon stopped when RM's data protection team got involved!yellowbelly wrote: ↑24 May 2025, 22:45

I'd forgotten all about it until a manager was photographing damage to a van recently and I was nearby. The manager told me they weren't photographing me so clearly it was still on their mind months later.

Re: Cameras in vans
Good on you pal. Why tf were managers filming you in the yard anyway? The intimidation/bullying tactics used by managers in this business is absolutely f***ing absurd, most of them should be sacked immediately.GizzardPuke wrote: ↑25 May 2025, 00:15Indeed. Re: Cameras in vans
This is the issue - they didn't say why they were doing it, which they're supposed to do. Whenever there's cctv installed there should be signs telling you it's there and the reason, usually to prevent crime etc. This was just managers going around photographing us loading our vans up.SkiSunday wrote: ↑25 May 2025, 07:08Good on you pal. When I did the SAR I was told it was for health & safety reasons. A load of cobblers which they use to justify everything.
I've even been told Tracked have to be prioritised for health and safety reasons by one manager.

Re: Cameras in vans
For someone with a neurological disorder it would be a huge invasion of privacy. I can't see it happening. CTV can have a general sweep of a office but to watch someone continually I'm sure they need a court order.
