Essentially, why pay someone a huge redundancy payment based upon decades of service if they're of an age where the likelihood is they'll retire imminently anyway? In that situation the VR terms begin to taper off at 64.5, getting lower the older you get irrespective of length of service.

No skin in the game so i will try to be objective.
Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?
I also find it strange that for the first time that i can remember since the last dispute, the union have mentioned industrial action.
Dan the man will have a plan, sounds like a "Sun" front page headline, the union don't know what that is, apart from making a wheelbarrow full of money, so it's a guessing game.
Dan will be well aware of the last dispute and will have the push back on the union ready and waiting.
I really hope that Dan is different from the last bunch of losers, but unless he has the commitment that you posties have to getting a workable delivery model in place i can't see it happening.
I would say this to the union though, listen to your members and hold your nerve, the alternative will be the death of this union and the workers rights within this company.
Good luck!

Martin is the one in the room negotiating the pay deal so why would you have Dave “wheeled out” to update us on it when you can just get Martin to do it.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?

I would imagine Dave is in the room too, getting your minion to go out as a sacrificial lamb to do the dirty work is the sort of thing RM do, you would hope your union wouldn't.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:57Martin is the one in the room negotiating the pay deal so why would you have Dave “wheeled out” to update us on it when you can just get Martin to do it.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?

How long before over time is brought back in, Or better still people made up to FT?
Heard nothing happens until the USO reform is brought in so possibly end of June, is that correct?

Think your analysis is bang on the mark. As I see it, Dan the Man has only upped his stake and bought the whole business as a result of the “excellent legwork”, as he doubtless sees it, done to irretrievably weaken the union’s hold over the last three years. I suspect he was one of the shareholders gleefully clapping his hands and applauding the company’s stance during the 2022/23 dispute. He isn’t about to roll over for the CWU. If anything, things are about to become even more commercialised and “real worldly” under his ownership. For now he is just being diplomatic, making the right noises and getting the formalities done and dusted.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28No skin in the game so i will try to be objective.

Do you union media train senior reps?
Would appear not,MW definitely needs some,it’s actually embarrassing at this point

Yes remember it is what it is - too late now do not moan just accept it and move on we are ungrateful...at least that is what the CWU appeasers tell us.
In fact maybe someone on here can list our t&c and we can bet on the list which ones the CWU will give away this time

I don't think you understand what their roles are within the CWU.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Couple of weeks in and so far it's a stress free wander reading gas meters as i go, maybe at some stage it might be a less casual approach by the company in which case i will retire.derekm wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 16:59How’s the new job scotchyscotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 09:27I would imagine Dave is in the room too, getting your minion to go out as a sacrificial lamb to do the dirty work is the sort of thing RM do, you would hope your union wouldn't.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:57Martin is the one in the room negotiating the pay deal so why would you have Dave “wheeled out” to update us on it when you can just get Martin to do it.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28Firstly i find it strange that the union have wheeled out Martin to be the sacrificial lamb/spokesman for the latest pay talks, is Dave worried about sticking his head above the parapet?

No Clash i do understand, my thoughts are that if this new owner and implementation of the USO are so important to the future of the company, and the union, the major players should be front and centre, no minions, no underlings, the leader of this union should be all over it.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 19:15I don't think you understand what their roles are within the CWU.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 08:28

But then again it's just my thoughts, not my union anymore.
Clash i am not being critical just to stir it, i just think sometimes the top brass take the easy way out and let someone else take the flak instead of being real leaders and standing at the front with all the danger that entails, that's what a real leader does.

All sounds feasible Smooth, although i hate the "real worldly" phrase, the "real world" is that RM workers have bills to pay and mouths to feed, they are not playthings to be tossed aside when you become bored.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 17:18Think your analysis is bang on the mark. Let's face it these billionaires have so much money that they really think they can do what they want, just look at Trump!
Giving the union a small victory or deal of the century, depending what side you are on, is a very small price. It's the long term you need to worry about.

The fact that Luke Elgar & Greg Charles….2 of most brash,up for fight, constantly challenging managers reps at CWU have totally flip flopped and are now towing company line says it all I’m afraid,
Sad times
