I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What are the VR 'tapering terms' for those at 64 and a half years old?
Why are you looking at agreeing 3 years worth of pay increases. This is likely less favorable than negotiating yearly when we have a better idea of inflation - nobody has any clue what inflation will be in 2027/28. This last year, 2% for 24/25 negotiated in 2022 I believe is proof of that. Further proof is the erosion of our hourly wages compared to the national minimum hourly wage - when I joined in 2017 our wages were about 40% higher than the minimum wage - now they are at around 10-5% higher for old contracts and close to parity for new contract staff. Thanks CWU.

The merest hint of industrial action will be laughed out of the boardroom. Even if the EP group install a whole new team of corporate clowns at the top tier of RM they will be more than aware that the CWU came away with crumbs and total humiliation last time despite the 97%+ backing from the voting membership. Losing 18 days pay for what we're having to endure now is not something that I personally would care to repeat. I'm sure I'm not the only one...

I get the impression that the CWU have been presented with a take it or leave it deal.

I'd be surprised he's already talking to senior managers before the takeover has been completed? I'm not sure he'd talk to anybody below board level when the takeover is completed.

Because selling the pay rise as "8%" with "over 3 years" in brackets, sounds better than 3% we're likely to get now.stevejm wrote: ↑02 May 2025, 19:35Why are you looking at agreeing 3 years worth of pay increases. You only have to look at BT to see how they got shafted, their pay rise wasn't even fair for all members with lowest paid benefitting more. So basically those with better skills/wages have to supplement their pay rise because the business won't, strange kind of negotiating tactics that.
I sense something similar will be afoot with RM to bring new contracts up to par with legacy, so legacy get a smaller pay rise than they normally would to fund new contracts.

Food for thought there, I'm leaning towards agreeing with you two I've suspected for a while the paid breaks will be in the firing line before much longer2chorizon wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 03:35This ^datasaint wrote: ↑03 May 2025, 02:34Because selling the pay rise as "8%" with "over 3 years" in brackets, sounds better than 3% we're likely to get now.stevejm wrote: ↑02 May 2025, 19:35Why are you looking at agreeing 3 years worth of pay increases. It's yet another CWU groundhog day presentation. Members are paying for this nonsense. Stop funding this man.

He’s just so charismatic. I will happily accept any crap deal they throw our way. We should all be grateful we even have a job.
